Week 10 - Challenger 50 ($35,000+H) - Potchopen, Potchefstroom, South Africa (hard)

That is tough. Imagine all the expense to get over to South Africa and then this.

Not saying it is the wrong decision, but it is still tough on players at this level, many with very little resources.

Edit

I wonder if players will keep the points and prize money for their first round wins, or if the entire tournament will just be annulled.

I believe that they get losers points and money for the incomplete match (at any stage in the tournament)

Backtrack from the ATP Challenger Tour

"There is currently a rain delay in Potchefstroom. Matches in progress will attempt to be finished by the end of the day.

All players will receive ranking points and prize money for matches completed during the week"

Some common sense in a difficult situation.

Some interesting banter on Twitter (slightly out of date now but ...)

Stuart Fraser

British 18-year-old Jack Draper was one game from victory in the second round of a Challenger in South Africa this afternoon. The match was stopped for rain about 45 minutes ago and will now not resume...

Jack's response

Was just about to get the break as well

I think the 6 weeks is optimistic, the way things are going - tennis events are going to be off for most of 2020. I don't see the French Open or Wimbledon happening at this rate. Even the Olympics are considering postponing for 2 years.

I am a bit concerned that this is going to hit the players further down the rankings hard, the ones in the 75-300 ballpark.

Yes, Jay for instance is not going to be able to defend his big April counter....it will have a significant impact for many on rankings, tournament eligibility etc cry
