Interesting to see Jack stepping up to Challenger level. The draw could be a lot worse.

Slightly surprised to see only 14 pairs in doubles here, top 2 seeds get byes. Maybe Jack could have found a partner and played?

A good spot for him this tournament as he's away from any crisis and the field ahead of him is beatable. Far better for his development outdoors in the sun than playing weak indoors futures back home. He looked the part in that October challenger when he beat Sock and Young so it's not as if he cannot exceed the level required if he's to push on. I hope he's got sufficient practice time in as he'll find the balls flying around at the elevation there.

Lost sight of this, Jack is playing and won the first set 7-5 and is a break 3-1 ahead in his opener, make that 4-1

if he wins, his round 2 opponent will be Tobias Simon of Germany. Simon reached the final of the same venue event last week so is in form it seems, ranked around 430/440 in world.

And if he were to win that it would be a qualifier in the QF

Good stuff.

Just 4 points so far, net 3 since Jack has a full set of counters, but no doubt enough to push his ranking / CH up another few notches.

And now Simon, RU at last week's 25K here.

Very good result from Jack, carrying on his form from the GB Futures over the last few weeks.

Rain at 5-4* in the final set.

He contrived to throw that 2nd set away, dropping serve in the 7th from 40-0 up, playing an ill-tempered, out of sorts opponent who was arguing with the umpire at every turn. That takes some doing.

And it is reported that the match won't be resumed, because the ATP have suspended all current events along the with upcoming events for the next six weeks.
