Qualifying seems all over the place here. 3 of the qualifiers seem to have been placed, but 5 are still TBD. I guess whether has played a part, but you'd think they'd have just placed the qualifiers at the same time, rather than stagger them.

Katy D gets the 4th seed next, a former top junior. Will be a good test for her. Gabi has another Israeli player, this time the 7th seed.
Sam kept losing her serve 2nd set against the German qualifier. She will face another (junior) qualifier next, hope its a better meal if its Kimchi.

R32: MURRAY, Samantha (GBR) [1] 213 def SEIBOLD, Emily (GER) [Q] 1091 (CH:890 Oct 19) 6-1 6-4
R32: DUNNE, Katy (GBR) 343 def HOURIGAN, Paige May (NZL) 437 (CH:408 Aug 19) 6-1 6-1
R32: TAYLOR, Gabriella (GBR) 429 def BEREZNYAK, Shelly (ISR) [Q] 824 (CH:790 Sept 19) 19yrs (JCH:279 April 18) 7-5 6-2

R16: MURRAY, Samantha (GBR) [1] 213 vs KIMCHI, Shavit (ISR) [Q] 987 (CH:971 Nov 19) 18yrs (JCH: 37 Jan 20)
R16: DUNNE, Katy (GBR) 343 vs WALTERT, Simona (SUI) [4] 280 (CH:275 Nov 19) 19yrs (JCH:9 Jan 18)
R16: TAYLOR, Gabriella (GBR) 429 vs KHAZANIUK, Deniz (ISR) [7] 320 (CH:200 June 18)

And so Kimchi it is for Sam, who fought back well against her fellow 18yr old, winning a three set battle on a close 3rd set TB in more than 2.5 hours, after losing the first set 1-6.

Still hope though it's a diet that Sam favours wink

Sam moves up to live precisely 300 points when these latest singles R1 win points get added post Indian Wells fortnight, on 23/03.

She's looking very close to being top 200 singles for the first time since 2013 ( having last month reentered the doubles top 200 for the first time since 2014 ).

Not yet Indy, she needs one more win. Her lowest counter is 5 pts so today's win adds nothing to her tally. But if she does win her second match against a qualifier then it will indeed bring her back inside the top 200 again.

Don't think so.

I agree OER's breakdown for her live 09/03 ranking, with last weeks Sunderland 18 points added, is live # 204 on 297 points, with a lowest counter of 2 points from Aus Open qualifying, then 5s.

So her 5 points so far here will add a net 3 points to take her provisionally to 300 points on 23/03.

OER though in its 23/03 projection retains the 2 pointer, and shows these South Africa 5 points as a non counter. That's wrong. Slam qualifying points are not mandatory counters.

Bit to go until 23/03 to be sure what points will be needed for WR 200 eg.still all next week's 25Ks and 15Ks, as well as further points from this week's. So she may well need more. But for the moment, if all else is right on OER, 300 points would have her provisionally just inside the top 200.

Yes, I hadn't looked at the detail, but you're right the 2 pointer for her QR1 loss in AO qualifying has been retained instead of being replaced by the 5 pts from this first round win. But yes, still a couple of weeks to go before these points go on, and Sam is due to be here next week too!

Katy and Sam's matches have just started this morning. Both scores 2-2 but very different matches. In Katy's match neither player has held serve yet; in Sam's match she has got 0/4 BPs so far and the match remains on serve.
