Katie is 3rd on Court 16 today, where play starts at 6pm, so depending on how the first 2 matches go, we're probably looking at around 9.30/10ish. The scheduling for this has been really good for us with IW being 8 hours behind. Play is basically starting at 10am local, and the vast majoirty of it is wrapped up by 4pm (midnight here).

Only 7 of the 16 seeds have made the last 16 (neither in Katie's match, where both are clearly far better than their current ranking), but some of these match ups could easily have been last 16 matches in a full WTA event - it's been enjoyable so far.

Katie was holding her own, 3-4 *30-0 (already exchanging breaks), but Tsurenko won the final 8 points to take the first set 3-6.

But has an early break in the 2nd after a very long game, *2-0.

About as good as it got in the end, lost 3-6 3-6, but she was still in most of the latter games, and it's good that she's got another 3 matches under her belt without a retirement or walkover.

On to proper Indian Wells next week (qualifying).

yes, pleased that Katie is able to finish her matches and play reasonably well. She paid a heavy price for serving her country last year so all the best to her.

An encouraging week for Katie. She has 20 pts coming off for the main Indian Wells event in two weeks time, so these 15 pts don't yet fully cover what will drop off. But her win against Blinkova will make Katie feel she can still get back towards the top 100 again and should continue to motivate her even whilst her ranking remains negative for this year.

QF: BOULTER, Katie (GBR) 396 lost to TSURENKO, Lesia (UKR) 152 CH=23 18/2/19 3-6 3-6

I think Indian Wells is possibly Katies last remaining points to defend from last season. Once those are off (although she may defend them) she should start to see some bigger jumps up the rankings with everything to gain. She could do with sneaking into some 60/100ks to build up higher points more consistently, although at least shes made something off her PR the last couple of weeks.

Just 22 points ( these 20 from Indian Wells and 2 from Miami ) left from last season. So yes IW the last poInts of any real substance.

Her remaining live 103 points from late last year and this year have her #147 in the live race.

With Jo's progress to the Monterrey SF, we currently have 5 women in the top 150 of the early race ( Heather, Jo, Naiktha, Harriet and Katie B ) and our #6 Emma is live race #152. OK, only Heather @ #17 is top 100 in the race ( although Jo will be too if she reaches the Monterrey final ) but pretty decent so far after the general travails of last season.

I wonder if Harriet is still in Indian Wells, they are dropping like flies currently.

She posted a pic yesterday saying hello Guanajuato Open, so she's currently in Irapuato.

Edit - actually that might not be correct. It looks like it was the tournament tagged Harriet into a pic yesterday, but then they did with the likes of Jaukupovic, so she might not physically be there yet, but the tournament are obviously expecting her. I'm not fully up to speed with my Instagram Stories smile

Begu won the title here, but I personally kind of lost interest in it around the QF stage, although mainly once Katie went out.

She would be mad to leave Indian Wells before tomorrow, she's not going to be playing until Tuesday at the earliest in Mexico and I assume she entered the 125k in Indian wells to put herself in the vicinity if the opportunity arose, leaving before qualifying started would not make sense.
