Wonderful week. Live ranking 49 and eligible for the Olympics if she can keep the ranking until June.

Fantastic to see Heather take the title here. biggrin I wonder what the record is for the most match points needed to win a title? Phew! Mind you I didn't doubt she get there in the end the way she's been playing.

Well done - Hev has never been able to follow up on these successes and string a run of good events. If She could she could get to top 30.

Heather giving us something to cheer about! We've waited nearly 3 years since Jo won Miami.

As well as 49th in rankings, this takes her to 17th in the wta race.

Here's the final score, so it's one place, and congrats indeed to Heather, even if that finish line proved unexpectedly resistant, good she made it over safely without letting the score get any closer that final set, lovely to see her playing well again.

F: WATSON, Heather (GBR) [7] 69 def FERNANDEZ, Leylah (CAN) 190 CH=185 3/2/20 6-4 6-7(8) 6-1

Not often I venture into this section of the board, but Heather's achievement this week deserves a huge "bravo".

I reckon you'll need a day to cleanse yourself now Bob!

a place at the Olympics beckons, hardly any points to defend for the next 6 months, a benefit to having a shocker last year. I'm not great at working these things out but think she only has 100 odd points to defend until July.

Congratulations Heather. Good to see her in such a fine run of form, and win another WTA title.

What is amazing about heather, and indeed kyle and dan and koko as well, is it demonstrates how much of tennis success is about happiness off the court. These guys travel the world a d it may seem glamorous. But it is lonely and they are just folks like you and me. Stability, relationships, etc make such a difference and if things are good personally , results turn around.

Whenever we see someone losing regularly , we should always take time to think about what issues they may be struggling with and wish them well.

And not so long ago last year, many were suggesting it was time Ms. Watson hang up her racquet as she was obviously done in terms of 'relevance' and would never achieve anything again but a sad fading into obscurity.

It's been a really excellent 6 months for Heather, stringing together great tournament runs most weeks she's competed, and almost every single week at International level.

And so, Heather retakes the lead for most WTA singles titles amongst active Brits, her 4 now breaking away from Johanna's 3.
Johanna's would obviously be worth more on a weighted basis, comprising 2 Premiers & a Premier Mandatory to Heather's 4 Internationals.

Jo is 3/8 in WTA singles finals (37.5%), Heather is 4/5 (80%)
Jo is incidentally 0/3 in International level finals
