Week 8 - ITF (W25) Sunderland, GBR Hard

Haha nobody wants to win. 14-14, and they've both had at least 2 MPs on serve. EA 2 MPs, AC 4. This is lasting nearly as long as the actual sets.

Finally! Ali 1-6 6-1 16-14!

Shame they both had to draw each other. Would have been better if it was Ali vs Chloe or someone, and Esther vs a weaker overseas seed.

Beth vs Ali FQR.

Hopefully it was more that nobody wanted to lose!  Great to see a really good fight between two of our youngsters and it was indeed a shame one of them had to lose.

Marni serving for the match, and to guarantee another British qualifier 6-3 *5-3. Ola and Danielle into a TB in the first set of the other match in that section.

Holds to 15! smile, so that's:

FQR - Marni vs Danielle/Ola

FQR - Beth vs Ali

FQR - Q6 vs Tanysha

FQR - Q1 vs Holly

Would have definitely settled for that at midday!

2hr 30 mins in and Ola levels up 7-6 5-7. Into a MTB.

9-5 Ola turns into 9-9.

Danielle with 7 of the last 8 points and wins 7-6 5-7 12-10 (2hrs 52 mins). Plays Marni for a place in the main draw tomorrow.

Just as well for her sake, it's not the double Q matches.

Streams again for some FQRs. Women are 3rd and 4th on and Beth-Ali, Marni-Danielle, and Holly are streamed, but not Tanysha.

I only saw bits of the first set, and most of the second, but I thought the score was rather unfair on Holly (0-6 3-6) and she played some good tennis, good fight, bit of a problem with the serve but nice hitting and excellent movement.

Ali Collins def. Beth Grey 6-3 7-5

Wasn't the most brilliant match but Ali most certainly deserved to win. Happy for her. I don't know quite where she is with her tennis at the moment (it seems such a long time ago that she was playing at Roehampton, off to Florida, being hyped by Judy Murray etc) And she certainly had good potential. Nice to make the main draw.

Ali played very well for most of the match, looked very solid in defence and hit some good winners. It was Beth that seemed to make most of the errors. Tight second set - 40 points each.

Yes, some really bad errors from Beth. She has a nasty habit of hitting her forehand off balance, sort of falling over as she hits the ball, instead of being anchored.

Well done Tanysha smile

I'm pleased Ali came through. She might not ever get to where Beth is now, but she is 5 years younger, so could (and hopefully will) get even further, and it's good to see her coming through these type of matches.

While another GB vs GB, I'd like to see Marni come through that one, and she's started well, and if she does, I'd consider this a pretty good day results wise

Hoping for some opportunities when the main draw comes out, and maybe even the odd GB vs GB match, especially if it's Q/WC vs Q/WC.
