Doubles draw is also out. I'll post the details this evening (unless someone else does it first !)
Sam and Freya are partners, and seeded 4, but the good news is Olivia Nicholls is in the draw, partnering Lissey.

On paper that looks a pretty tough set of matches.
Are any of our women actually favourite to win?
I was wondering why more of our players weren't playing in this tournament but now I can see why. In the same level of tournament in India, Jodie is playing an unranked player and Fran someone ranked 974 in the first round. It really seems like a disadvantage to play in Europe as the entry level seems so high at this standard of tournament.
I can't find any odds yet, but I'd imagine Emma would be considered the favourite in her match. Katy's probably 50/50, and maybe just Sam a slight favourite. Ali and Esther would have been up against it whoever they drew, and Lissey was very unlucky to draw Friedsam. I'd probably have considered Emma the most likely to make a run out of the 6 before the draw, but if she does beat Benoit, then she'll likely face #1 seed Ahn, who's currently top 100, so we'll probably do well to get anyone through to the QFs on Friday, but here's hoping. I guess Sam is a seed, so in theory 'should', but she's not had the best of starts to the season, even if it is early days, and even a potential R2 match with Jana Fett could be tough if she gets past Zimmermann.
Only 2 Brits are in action tomorrow, Esther and Lissey, with the other 4 on Weds. Joanna Garland made it through quals today, and she also plays tomorrow.
As TA says, this is the only European W25 this week, and while Sunderland the following week is by no means weak (certainly not compared to the Indian one this week, and even the Japan W60), but that'll probably where we're more likely to see some extended runs, particularly as there should be a lot more Brits in the main draw.
Just to add to Ace's post re the order of play. All the doubles are being played tomorrow EXCEPT Lissey and Liv's match. Esther is the only one with singles and doubles tomorrow.

Thanks TA and Ace. That makes sense. Good to know we've got the chance of some of our players doing well in a home tournament at this point in the season.

There are actually 10 of our top 25 players entered for Sunderland - the ones that are missing being the highest ranked, or injured, or just a few competing abroad.
Good to see Olivia Nicholls back on court again.. she's had a lot of troubles the last 12 months and only played a couple of tournaments when making her last come back before being injured again. I hope therefore this time she's more fully recovered and can get back to playing more fully finally once more.
