I see Benoit benefited from a second retirement when top seed Ahn had to stop early in the third set.

Looking at the ITF 'momentum', Sam was well in all 6 of these games.

She had game point in 3 of them, including a BP to go *5-0, got to deuce in 2, and to 30 in the other.

Well, the momentum is certainly not with her now. She is serving second in the third set too, and needs to stop the rot early.

Oh my heavens, and Sam has been broken again beginning of the 3rd from 40-15 up disbeliefdisbelief

This could be goodbye Sam very soon now.. She seems to have lost her nerve a bit at the moment, if she is getting into positions but then losing each game subsequently. She needs a break and a hold urgently now to have any chance left in this match.

*0-3

Had deuce in the first game, these 2 game points in the second, and a BP after a few deuces in the 3rd.

Not finishing games very well !!

I watched Fett play several Fed Cup matches last year. She is a remarkably streaky player. Great for six games and then appalling for the next six. Seemed incapable of closing out a win. Maybe all as a result of the Wozniacki match.

Oh dear, service stats dropped considerably in the third. Now 0-4* and looking over.

Hope she hasn't passed the affliction onto Sam. Sam has eventually halted a loss of 10 straight games, to be *1-4 down now final set.

R2: MURRAY SHARAN, Samantha (GBR) 8 218 lost to FETT, Jana (CRO) 238 6-4 4-6 3-6

Samantha's service went downhill until the near the end. In the 3rd set she was winning 30% on both 1st and 2nd serves, then she won four 1st serves in a row to take the penultimate game. Up until then she was doing better on her opponents serve. Very odd.

Yes Sam seems to be having a crisis of confidence at the moment, and considering the comments made about Fett having the same, sadly Sam seems to have allowed Fett to find a way of winning again, or rather, of allowing her opponent to do the losing this time.

Sam has not had any good wins for a while now, and the manner of this loss today is likely to haunt her. I thought Sam still had upside at the beginning of this year, and whilst she still does, her performances of late have displayed much more doubt than confidence. A pity since it has also seemed that Sam could approach this year with some confidence and essentially an attitude that she had nothing to lose, so why not go for it and see where she could get to. But if she enjoyed her tennis end of last year, that's not how she seems to have been playing now. In this match today, if the winner had been the first person to reach each GP Sam would have won easily but from 4-0 up in the second, she lost her way and confidence completely, and the small recovery she made at the end was far too little too late. Very disappointing since this seems to be more than just a once off at the moment. Hope Sam can find some more enjoyment/ confidence soon.

I suspect being newly married and apart in different continents will affect her game. My whole attitude to work travel changed when  I was married, never really recovered in terms of enjoying it, a sort of necessary evil, but those first few months where tough.
