I'm not expecting much from EWS here, but just generally, Talaba seems a strange player - she's had some really big scalps these past few months, but then often gets routined by players she'd probably expect to beat, there just doesn't really seem to be a happy medium.

I was actually randomly watching her Midlands main draw match on a steam last Thursday against the former good junior Xu (who comfortably beat EWS in quals), and Talaba won something like 10 of the last 11 games, so obviously does have a decent level, but just not consistent.

Quite a nice main draw as well, and probably has more depth than WTA Hua Hin. Bellis vs Kalinskaya is a cracking R1 match for a W100.

Dropped the set 5-7

Broke at the start of the second, but then managed to get broken from 40-0 which wasn't ideal...

*1-2

Much improved on past two weeks but still goes down 75 63.

Talaba served at 75% which is pretty impressive.

Hopefully the better singles showing carries across to the doubles and they can have a good week.

13-11 loss in MTB

Had two match points at 5-4* in the second.

Gutted.

Lost because of a net-cord in the second. Sounds like the umpiring is pretty poor at the whole tournament.

USTA events are generally run like the 1984 Olympic boxing competition.
