I'm gutted about this result. When I saw Gabi had come back from a set and a break down to win the second set I really thought we were seeing a return of the fighting spirit which characterised her play a few years ago. I hope she stays for next week and doesn't withdraw again like last time she lost.
So Gabi's tournament ends as quickly as Eliz's, whose result today was as close as Gabi's was. So whilst Eliz can be genuinely pleased by her performances here this week, against higher ranked players than all those Gabi met, Gabi must still be wondering where is her game, and what is her immediate future, since she has yet to look like anything more than a W15 player for the time being. Gabi is still persisting here for one more week, and then is scheduled to play a French indoor W25 event. I think that's positive, even if she still doesn't really perform here next week either, as i think she has to try and see whether she can be more competitive at the W25 level, and hope that a greater degree of sharpness returns to her game at that level. As for Eliz, may she just keep going the next couple of weeks, when she is still scheduled to be here, and hope she can break into the top 1000 by the end of them. She quite obviously has the game to be easily around top 500, so it would be good if she could take a few bigger strides soon to move upwards.

Have to agree with this assessment. For Eliz a very positive defeat, if there can be such a thing, for Gabi another disappointment really. She's dropped down to this level to get some confidence and a winning mentality back into her game but for whatever reason it just isn't happening.
Next week is big for Gabi for me. She will probably be the top seed again. (?). She really needs to get to the final and get some good wins on the way. For Eliz it is important to remember how well she's done this week if next week doesn't go as well.
I see both Gabi and Eliz's conquerors won their respective semi finals yesterday, and it was Eliz's Romanian conqueror Ghioroaie who ended up with the title (7-5 6-1)
