Week 6 - ITF (W25) Grenoble, France Hard

Extremely disappointing first round result from Sam there. She played well in the QR1 in the AO, but failed to win to pick up any meaningful points there, and since has had disappointing results and no further points.

Tidy from Katie, would love to see her start to get back to where she was. A further 4 points starts her ticking back up again after her fall to WR 439 this week. One more win, which she should get easily enough if she keeps playing the way she has so far, will bring her back inside the top 400 again. Not where she wants to be, but as long as she starts to move upwards again, that's fine.

R2: BOULTER, Katie (GBR) 439 def MIYAZAKI, Yuriko Lily (JPN) 497 CH=487 8/11/19 6-2 6-1

QF: BOULTER, Katie (GBR) 439 vs Gaelle DESPERRIER (FRA) [Q] 880 (CH:746 March 19)

Katie 2nd on tomorrow and play starts at 11am. The bookies have it extremely close, Katie has opened up a very narrow favourite at 8/11 and Desperrier evens, so almost 50/50. Hopefully she can build on her encouraging week, but this looks set to be her toughest test.

The French tennis fans will likely be quite excited over the 18 year old Burel vs 16 year old Jacquemot all French QF.

Ive never heard of Desperrier before and find this so interesting. Never seen a player with a ceiling so much higher than their ranking who doesnt want to at least see how much she could push it by (although maybe this is what she tried a few years ago) Looks like she only does the two tournaments a year and then gets on with something else!

At the other end of the scale form Desperrier, and for those who like to follow new up-and-coming youngsters, Else Jacquemot is born 2003 and has made the QFs here.

She's France's number 2 youngster, ITF junior ranked 8, behind Diane Parry, ITF junior ranked 1.

But Else is a year younger than Diane AND beat her convincingly in R1 in this event.

In this match, she's playing Clara Burel, born 2001, who was France's top junior last year, and was ITF junior 1.

No unfortunately there is not. Rather strangely the only livestreams this week are for W15 events in New Zealand, Greece and Turkey!

Easy for Katie in the end, and suggests she's regaining her form, which is encouraging to say the least. Of the juniors it looks like Burel who Katie will get next.

QF: BOULTER, Katie (GBR) 439 def Gaelle DESPERRIER (FRA) [Q] 880 (CH:746 March 19) 6-3 6-2

Burel it is who had an even easier win than Katie did. As CD has noted she is a former JWR 1. Still on her current showings so far this tournament, I'm sure Katie must be the heavy favourite to make the final.

SF: BOULTER, Katie (GBR) 439 vs Clara BUREL (FRA) [WC] UNR/427 (CH:477 Feb 19) 18yrs (JCH:1 Oct 18)
