And congrats to ex-Brit, Ali Bedene, who defeated Tsitsipas !
out of interest, who still keeps an eye on Bedene and his performances? I vowed I would, but sadly I found myself less and less and for the past 12 months or so I havent really checked how he is doing unless something raises his name to general attention.
I am actually quite disappointed in myself, but it is what it is.
Anyway , well done to him although sadly many of the top young players seem to really struggle with consistency of performance and so beating Tsitsipas isnt the thing it should be...

Trait-edene is no longer mentioned in this forum. The irony is, even if he had stayed British, what good would he have actually done. He is basically a upper challenger/lower ATP 250 player.

No, to be honest, I don't go out of my way to check his results either.
(Nor Isabelle Wallace)
But his name jumps out when I glance over general results and I'm pleased he's doing well.
Add: and to Vandy, you could say that with our men's singles tennis as it is, we'd take anyone right now - decent challenger player doesn't sound too bad! But, I don't see him as a traitor

Random observation but the prize money for Rotterdam has increased significantly in qualifying but barely at all for the winner something like up 30%+ in qulaifying and 0.4% for the winner.
I hope they carry on doing this. The gap between qualifying prize money and the winner's prize money is huge. And to be honest if you're winning £345k you're probably not going to notice the extra. But winning £6k rather than £4.5k makes the difference between actually making some decent money and only just breaking even, when you take travel costs, coaching, accommodation into consideration.
As for Bedene, I wish him well but I don't really follow the fortunes of many non-British players, even if they used to be British. Or even those, like Bryden, who have nominally changed to GB but did so as an adult, don't really come to Europe often and play most of their matches in their home country or southern hemisphere, play doubles with non-Brits etc. Again, I wish him well, but can't think of him really as a British player.
Fabulous result for Aljaz! Perhaps if he had his time again he would make different choices. Hindsight is 20:20. I wish I could change some of the career decisions I've made!
And maybe Vandy would support him with our other Challenger players inc Andy and Dan.....
I thought that Mr. Bedene was actually British, but not qualified to play for Britain in the Davis Cup? Or did I misunderstand what happened?
He reverted his nationality to Slovenia once it was confirmed that he would not be able to represent GB in the Davis Cup. I believe his motivation for switching back was on his desire to qualify for the Olympics.
Yes he has dual nationality and as far as I'm aware has lived in the UK since 2008 so no comparision to Brydan at all. As the parent of a dual citizen myself it really gets my goat to see people being torn down for not being a 'proper' brit'.

totally agree and one of my best friends and his wife are dual Mexican/British and Swedish/British themselves with a child going through life known as Alejandro Bjorn! Who I believe will have triple nationality although I cannot be certain of that!
I digress. I think my original point was now that Aljaz is no longer being called a Brit in tennis terms, I had hoped I would continue to follow him. Sadly I find myself not following him and I wondered if he others had found that. I do wish him well however and it is good to see him getting a win like this. Wouldnt it be fun to see Aljaz and Dan play in the semis, God Willing.

Aljaz wanted to play international team tennis and possibly more particularly Olympic tennis and with his British ties wanted to do so as a Brit rather than the probably easier route of simply always remaining under the Slovenian banner.
He thought that he had done everything to make that happen and was denied by the ITF and that seems at least a big reason for his reversion to being a tennis Slovenian.
Support him or support him not, follow him or follow him not, but I continue to have great difficulty about this minority antagosism to him for no good reason that I can see.
