Really well done to Ms. Grey. Her first WTA level match outside the UK yields her first ever WTA level win.
It is also her second biggest points counter - the largest being 13 pts for reaching R16 of a W60 match in Portugal last year as a qualifier, and brings her up to a very provisional LR 596 on 17 Feb.

Beth and Eden are direct entries into the doubles. Draw tomorrow.
Em was originally scheduled to play here with Namigata (they made the cut for advance entires) but obviously withdrew when Em decided to go stateside instead.

Just a note on former Wimbledon jr finalist Leonie Kung since there already is a Hua Hin thread. She came into this event ranked 283, and this was her first WTA (main draw) event, and while she hasn't exactly faced murderors row, she has battled through to the final, and is now currently live ranked 154, and could rise another 25-30 places IF she can beat Magda Linette tomorrow.
There was talk on another forum that she may have tanked her Thailand W25 QF last Friday, to be able to play the quals here on the Saturday, something that cost Jodie her place in quals (as she won her QF), and if that is correct then it's obviously massively paid off for her, as she'll end with a minimum 198 points for this event. This does mean that she will have played W, T, F, S, S, M, W, T, F, S, S, so 11 matches in 12 days and thus might not have anything left tomorrow, but either way, this is massive for her and should make a big difference to her scheduling for the rest of 2020.
I was going to say Emma beat her at Roehampton W25 less than 5 months ago for another feather in our girls cap, but then Lissy did as well a week later (and 6-2 6-2), so she probably wasn't firing at the time.
Yes I've been tracking Leonie Kung in this tournament too and incredibly impressed by how she's done given that gruelling schedule that you've indicated Ace. That would be enough to injure most of our players.. so hope she stay's fit and this is certainly a massive boost for her ranking and confidence.
And yes the ethics of tanking an ITF match to get into WTA qualifying the next week - players simply should not be in the situation where that becomes an issue/ choice, since the alternative is they cannot play the week before otherwise, which is excessively penalising too, and denies them the warm up opportunity. This is especially given that the two tournaments are even in the same country. So yes, in Kung's position, I would have made sure I was able to play the WTA qualifying too.
