Emily did beat Xu in straights 4 months ago which started a horrific run for the Chinese player, and a subsequent drop in the rankings. She has seemingly slightly picked up again though, so not I'm expecting too much.
This is just about the only US tournament , at any level, that I have any time for. A really well run event that engages and energises the entire surrounding community.
Also, we've recently had a pretty decent record here in singles and doubles.
The Michigander good times may be coming to an end for the Brits, though, at least in the short term, as our supply line of contenders realistically aspirational at this level has dwindled. Or, our few remainders have their sights set a little higher, at WTA qualies instead (which I'd charge, is obviously good).
Is Mrs Murray Sharan due in the MD? She often appeared when fit, as she could schedule it with another swing past her beloved Evanston somewhere in the trip itinerary.
To be fair, Em's last 9 tournaments have included a WTA 125k International, three at W100, two at W60 and three at W25. The singles is just for practice (not that worked very well today) and Em is really going for doubles points.
Nice win for Tara. Net +7 points and an 18 pt non counter. Might move her up a couple of places but one more win and it's the same as a 25k tournament win.

Considering how promptly Tara has retired in her last two singles matches, it's also good to see that she can still play doubles!
