What a cracker

Well done, Joe. And Rav.

Grand slam champions biggrin

And well done to the US college system - we owe them!

And to Wimbledon, for being his breakthrough tournament:

"Salisbury, who was ranked outside the world's top 100 two years ago, will now rise to number four.

"It is tough when you are playing the lower-ranked tournaments to get enough points to get your ranking high enough to play in the big tournaments," he added.

"I had the breakthrough making the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2018 and making the main tour. But it is tough to work your way up."

Easy peasy. Joe's backhand was on fire.
Up to WR 4 - effectively WR 2

Yes I'm a bit surprised too. I'm currently in SE Asia but this was over so fast I missed it so can't comment on the match itself, but the scoreline suggests a relatively easy win especially the final set. Huge congrats to Joe, this is a big, big moment for him... Top 4 in the world, it's massive

(11) Rajeev Ram (USA) & Joe Salisbury CR 43 (22+21) def (WC) Max Purcell & Luke Saville (AUS/AUS) CR 170 (88+82) . 6-4 6-2

Yet again at a big event it's the doubles players who bring home the glory for GB.

Congratulations to Joe and Raj but also to Ken and Jon for reaching the QF's, a fine achievement in itself.

I watched the final this morning and it was more like a first round match. The guys made the Aussies look like beginners which they are clearly not. It was a near flawless performance.

Joe struggled for many years for one reason or another and this shows how persistence and self belief can win through, I doubt this GS win for Joe will be a one off, I'm sure there will be more to come. Joe is also our undisputed number one doubles player and first pick for Davis Cup.

Congratulations again!

A report from the Melbourne paper, The Age, which includes a three-minute highlights clip.  There was a bizarre incident in the second set where the dampener dropped out of Luke Saville's racket & the players were ordered by the umpire to replay the point!

Super stuff  biggrin

Yes, might give Joe a ( not the ) Davis Cup now  - well if it was coming up soon, having been previously happy with the Jamie & Neal partnership. Joe & Jamie seemed to be gelling better as the ATP Cup proceeded. I am not aware of say Joe & Neal having partnered each other.

Pretty sure I have heard before of a plsyer losing a point because of their dampener dropping out.
