Week 3 - ITF (W15) Cancun, Mexico Hard

Hmm,

Emily 9 DFs against 10.

7/12 BPs converted against 8/15.

96 points in total against 99.

At least got a win to start what is surely a very important year for her. Has to show real progress.

I'm not sure how Emily managed to win that one, but I'm glad she did.

A win is a win and it is after a long break so positive news. However, surely this year she has to step up in a successful way above merely the 15K level. Really didn't progress at all last year in fact possibly went backwards.

She only won three matches (one by retirement) in 16 W25 tournaments last year. She's 20 now, and really needs to make that step up this year.

BTW, I saw the end of one of those wins (Chiswick against Lukosiute) and it was a bit like today's stats !

I guess it's going to be another year of people wondering why a player who has shown a consistent level is not going up the rankings, when other players of the same level don't get the same comments.

Fairly or not, I think there was more expectation that Emily would progress and move up the rankings, with her pretty decent junior record and the good backing she has had. And it looks an important year if she is to maintain all that backing.

Though I agree that she has been pretty consistent for some time now and if she maintains that consistent level she won't be making any significant move up the rankings.

Emily is set to lose 5 (net 3 points) this month, 2 (net 1) in Feb., and 5 in March. She has currently 8 1 point counters. She had a dilemma last August with back-to-back wins at 25k where it was noted she was heavily strapped-up. She chose to play on - was forced to retire -and has only just come back.

She could easily cover all her points off at 15k and avoid qualies. She is only 20 and needs to go at her own rate.

Last year I wasn't sure if she should press-on or rest-up. This year she should take it easy - there is a lot less expectation - and just chip away at the ranking. Good luck to her smile

The match took nearly 3 hours so assuming thats right the match was a lot more competitive than the scoreline suggests
