British Tour - 2020

I know it's matches that she 'should' win, but those are impressive looking score lines for Lissey. I think she did later avenge the defeat, but she did lose to Holly S in a GB W25 qualifing about a year ago, and Grace did reasonably well in the W25 events she played, and was never thrashed, so they were both wider than I was expecting.

With Sam, Lissey and Freya there it doesn't give the youngsters much chance. I can understand why they all wanted to be there, but it doesn't seem to be the way forward.

..and speaks to the general lack of professional events within the UK. As was noted earlier, the winner and RU here win at least handy sums.

Yes. As a 'home' event for Sam (and Lissey), with good money, and 25k MD wildcards on offer (wildcards which Lissey and Freya will need, and no guarantee that they'd get them otherwise), it's obvious that this event would attract some of our better players, at the expense maybe of youngsters, and the LTA must have known that/wanted that.

The UTR events have been a big boost, in my opinion, for players slightly lower down in the UK, including youngsters.

Esther, for instance, has a MD wildcard, thanks to winning the Cardiff Met UTR event. (And Marni and Tannysha have quali wcs). And decent money. The turnout was good, with a lot of youngsters taking part.

And the men have a mega boost - the winner of the recent UTR event gets two MD wildcards and a quali wildcard - i.e. plays all three events.

 Indeed. 2 hours 25 minutes, and Lissey wins 2-6 6-3 6-4

Am just catching up on some results as haven't been online that much this week... Well, I predicted Sam to still rise a little further this year and challenge her long standing CH 165. But her post AO results including this week in Grenoble are not encouraging for that. This is a great win for Lissey who definitely should be ranked higher than her current WR 570, but I really do hope that Sam will be able to inject a little more momentum into the early part of her year soon.

I've not seen the field, and I suppose all she's down is match her seeding thus far, but good to see Amelia back playing, and winning, after withdrawing from the British W25 double header. Does this event offer any MWDCs or QWCs into the upcoming Midlands ITF swing?

Not this event. The Bolton event does give cards for Loughborough and Edgbaston though
