British Tour - 2020

Yes, absolutely. Got to be in it to win it, and one of the reasons that everyone on this board has always said that there should be 15ks for women in the UK - our 'normal ' youngsters never really get a chance otherwise (unless they travel).
Well done !

Add.....and get better soon, to Marni

All the best to Marni. It's a little worrying that she described her injury as an "ongoing" issue. I hope not too long term and that it can be sorted.

So Maia vs Alicia D in the final tomorrow. Didn't see much of Maia's SF, but she has just beaten Amelia R 6-4 6-3 in the completed SF.

Hopefully that's on 'centre court' tomorrow with the commentary.

Edit - it is, and follows the men's final which starts at the early time of 9.30am.

Maia has helped a bit with a couple of surprise misses, but Alicia has taken the first set 6-3.

Alicia D has an excellent physique for tennis.

It's not the be all and end all, but it certainly helps - and you can't teach it

She also has a quite a lot of things to work on, which actually is good....

Just a shame the conclusion is going to clash with the SGH main final, so you can't really fully concentrate on both. They should have had Kimberly vs Amelia on now and pushed the others back a spot.

Sorry if missed I missed something earlier in this thread but does anyone know anything about Alicia Dudeney? I've never come across her before. Thanks

She's been in the junior threads quite a bit, but not in high ranking events or anything, but with good results.

I think she's also played British Tour events.

I'm really grateful to this event because, as said earlier, I'd never seen her and she was one of the names on the list that I wanted to check in on.

Comes from near Brighton, I think.

No idea where she stands with the LTA....

PS JUst to point out that although she's 17, she's born in May 2003, so still a junior next year.

I know it's very different conditions and court speed, and Maia's game is very different, but the difference in intensity between this match and Barnett/Grey in the other tournament is quite considerable - was impressed by both Beth & Alicia, some great rallies. Can't help but feel that for players at their level, this kind of tournament (with tons of matchplay against similar opposition) will be super useful.

Yes, completely agree about the level of the two matches (never really been a fan of Maia's tennis although she does have some nice net skills, of course)

Thoroughly enjoyed the tussle in this match though.

Despite the commentary being utterly awful ! An endless stream of inane platitudes that sound pleasant on the ear but say absolutely nothing of any interest or usefulness.

Must admit, I was wanting Alicia to win, especially after saving MPs to get it back to 9-9 in the MTB, but well done Maia who won the next 2 points from there to take the title.

I missed the match, and had to hunt for the final score, as the LTA page wasn't updated.
So for the record
Maia Lumsden def Alicia Dudeney 3-6 6-4 11-9

With the Progress Tour being indoors, presumably, the BT events next Saturday and Sunday must be outdoors? Presumably last 16 and qf on Saturday, semis and finals Sunday? With mens and womens, their have 24 matches saturday so presumably using 4 courts?
