Well it's Premier Tier, so £1,500 to the winner and £850 to the runner up. The winner gets a MDWC for Glasgow or Sunderland, and the runner-up a QWC.
But I believe it is also first tournament for Freya, and first since AO for Sam, so match practice for both of them (well, starting with the QF, assuming they get there - the earlier matches are really just a warm-up for them)
Why is Freya playing at this level - is it match practice or is it m0ney Also Sam who should be playing 60ks
Bath is Sam's tennis centre and base (or was).
I think it's great that she's supporting it.
And, as the addict says, it's good money and good match practice, just before the important UK events, and - because quite a lot of them are doing it - the level is actually interesting.
It's also no harm in playing down sometimes - good chance to try out different things in match situations.
Lissey is also playing - and she shares a coach with Sam, so no surprise she is playing as well.
Good point.
It's also very difficult for many coaches to see their players actually play in match situations.
The players who aren't on the LTA funded list can't cough up for the coaches to travel abroad with them (too expensive).
And it's not always easy for the coaches to get away (up to Glasgow, for instance) and watch early round matches of a 25k, which will be on week days when they may have regular lessons booked and all the other things they do to make a living.
(and we don't have any real team tennis)
So if Lissey and Sam's coach can watch them both play a handful of proper matches, that's a great advantage.
They were playing at the same time at Chiswick last year, and Sam told me that they actually asked for adjacent courts so their coach could watch them both !
