British Tour - 2020

Jodie serving well here, hasn't really looked in any danger of being broken (famous last words...). Don't believe Naomi has been past 30, and most holds seem to have been to 0 or 15.

6-4 4-2*

Jodie looking nicely in control (although have just cashed in the 10ps - don't want a meltdown heartbreak smile)

5-2 up in the second.....won the first 6-4

Yeah, pretty comfortable throughout, and all (women's) matches wrapped up well before the big League One play off match at 5.30pm.

2 decent semi finals then - Marni vs Emma should be really interesting, and while I'd have preferred Eliz or someone to have made it, Jodie vs Lily was probably the best match on paper once the draw was made.

Jodie beat Lily 7-6 6-4 at the same venue last September, and Emma beat Marni 7-5 6-3 in Sunderland in late February, both in W25s.

Lol, cashing in at 5-2 .........

I had a bet on Beth yesterday, mainly because of the wind negating Naomi's serve - forgot to cancel it when they moved indoors  cry

It's disappointing not to see Katy Dunne playing in any of these tournaments. Surely she can't still be injured? Or have I missed something?

No, I don't think you have missed anything. Katy, Gabi and EWS all noticeably absent from all entry lists.

Does Marni not have a wta ranking at all? She seems to be playing top 400 level at least...

I think she only has 2 counters on her record - Adelaide (although not even sure if she'll get that as she was a QWC) and Sunderland, and you need 3 for a ranking, but yes, I agree, she does seem to be playing at that sort of level at least at the moment. She took a set of Kasatkina in Adelaide, was competitive in defeat to both Jodie and Emma in the past 12 months, beat someone in the 300 range at Sunderland, and then has obviously done very well here, so should just be a matter of time, or rather events, until gets a ranking and then climbs them.

From her 6 tournaments Marni 'just' has the Sunderland W25 in February as a points scorer. There she qualified, beat Malechova (CZE), currently WR 318, by 6-3 7-6(5) in R2 and lost to Emma by 7-5 6-3 in R2. So she remains unranked with 6 points from one counter.

Ah, thanks Indy, Adelaide seemingly didn't count JonH.

Katy had hoped to play in the Progress Tour but had to withdraw because of recurrent injury-a great shame!

Ah, sure it doesn't count? I was just going to say - good point about Adelaide. Anyway, not 10 points or 3 counters.

I'm not sure, haha. I was just going off your post smile. I was looking at the WTA rulebook and though she might have got a point for that, but wasn't fully sure with her being a QWC, but as you say, definitely not 3 counters, so she'll have to wait a while longer.

Oh gawd, don't take me as gospel

I can't get her WTA site activity up and it should give ranking points for each tournament, which the ITF activity page does not.

I'd skimmed over her Adelaide Premier QR1 loss ( great effort though it was! ) without considering it but actually non WCs would have got a point and, unlike the ATP, the WTA doesn't normally bother that players are WCs, well in main draws at least.
