British Tour 2020

Excellent win for young Toby Samuel over Josh Paris, who was 5th seed and obviously on form as he just won the important UTR event (although maybe tired?)

Also, a super win in two sets for Tom Hands over Andy Watson, 3rd seed, and top-1000 player.

Alex Jhun also took out the 7th seed, Ben Jones.

Luke and Julius, the top two seeds, however, won easily.

After over three hours of match, Henry Patten gets the win over Alexis Canter, which is a good top-1000 victory for Henry.

However, he has his semi still to play today.....

He plays the only 'pesky' left, Julius Tverijonas, (who beat Alex Jhun) so that'll be tough.....

Luke beat Toby Samuel in two tight sets, so that's a good showing from Toby.

In the semis, Luke plays Sean Hodkin, who beat Tom Hands.

I should have had more faith in Henry Patten's staying power. After his epic three hour match, he then went on to beat the 2nd seed, and top 800 ATP player, Tverijonas, in two close sets.

So, the final will be Luke Johnson against Henry Patten.

And if I've got this right, the Bath event is even more important than I'd thought.

The winner tomorrow will get MD wildcards into TWO of the next three events, plus a quali wildcard into the third one.
The runner-up gets one MD WC and one quali one.
And the semi-finalists get a quali wildcard too.

From the LTA site:

Winner British Tour Bath
(3-8 February 2020)
Premier Tier : 2 main draw wild cards & 1 qualifying
wild card into the 3 week swing

Player can stipulate a desired week
but it is at the discretion of the Mens
Team as to which event. Players will
be informed as early as possible.
Player must commit to all 3 weeks of
the 3 week February swing

Runner-Up British Tour Bath
(3-8 February 2020)
Premier Tier
1 main draw wild card & 1 qualifying
wild card into the 3 week swing

Losing semi-finalist British Tour Bath
(3-8 February 2020)
Premier Tier
1 qualifying wild card into Barnstaple,
Glasgow, or Sunderland

With the little amount of tennis left, let's hear it for the British Tour

At Edgbaston, we have:

QFs:

Jake Hersey v Nick Turnbull
Tom Smart v Rich Partridge
Tom Welsh v Liam Hignett
Matt Southcombe v Max Graham

Going to keep a close eye on this now.

Is there a link to the British Tour standings and  list of the years results? LTA website does a poor job of promoting it, to be frank.

The home page for the British Tour is at www.lta.org.uk/play-compete/competing/adult-tennis-competitions/individual-adult-competition/british-tour/

There are links to the calendar (which has links to all events), and also links to the current tournament, and the Leaderboard (you have to use the drop downs on the leaderboard page to choose which one you want).

I wonder if the event at Bolton scheduled for 23 March will take place.

I notice Matt Southcombe is still 16, Tom Smart is 18, Liam Hignett seems to be a coach (looks early 20's?), and Jake Hersey is 19 with an ATP ranking around 1400
