Week 50 - ITF (W100+H) - Dubai, UAE - Hard

I see Emily's recent doubles partner Rutuja Bhosale is also in the Q draw.

I'm not sure Emily will get anywhere in the singles here, but presumably she will be in the doubles too, where her greater interest is likely to lie.

QR1: Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) [QWC] 461 vs Anastasia GASANOVA (RUS) [q16] 296 (CH:261 July 19)

Lost 62 63. Caught a bit of it on the stream. Played alright, just overpowered and too many short balls.

Emily lost 6-2 6-3

Rutuja gave Krunic (#Q2) a scare, but lost 6-3 0-6 3-10
Doubles draw should be out tomorrow

Surprisingly it's just been released. Em is playing with Bolkvadze, and they face Bogdan/Tig

That is Elena Bogdan, not Ana Bogdan - slightly lower ranked in singles, but higher in doubles. No place for Rutuja this week.

L16:- Elena Bogdan ROU / Patricia Maria Tig ROU CR340 (185+155) v Mariam Bolkvadze GEO / Emily Webley-Smith GBR CR581 (436+145)

(I thought Mariam was higher ranked than that, but it is her singles at 155 that would have got them the entry, whereas Rutuja has 202 doubles/421 singles)

Mariam retired in her singles at 4-6 0-3, so waiting to see if she can play the doubles

Mariam had her left calf strapped, but it didn't seem to hinder her at all.

L16:- Mariam Bolkvadze GEO / Emily Webley-Smith GBR CR581 (436+145) def Elena Bogdan ROU / Patricia Maria Tig ROU CR340 (185+155) 6-3 7-6(5)

Very respectable result, that.

Good job from a break down in the second and saving set point

Very good.

At this stage just a net 3 points for Em over her 11th counter of 25. A further 27 points are on offer if they reach the SF.

Having a now non counter of 25 and 18s is good back up for any fallow periods next year when lots of points are due off.

I thought they could have won that more easily, having missed a few chances, but still a good win. And the 28 points (nett 3 after replcacing 25 from Surbiton) are another small step up the ladder for Em.

QF:- MariamBolkvadze (GEO) / EmilyWebley-Smith (GBR) (436+145) v Alena Fomina (RUS) / Valentina Ivakhnenko (RUS) CR446 (179+267)[WC]

The Russian pair put out the No 2 seeds, so this will be a tough match. Bet365 has odds of 5/4 versus 4/7
