Emma wins the final set decider. She broke early for 2-0 and again at 4-4 having been pulled back.
Heather was a month short of 18 when she won her first $25K, so Emma is probably our youngest winner at this level for a while? Hev did also win a $50K a monyj after her $25K, so that's a useful next rung for Emma
Jo was about the same age when she had her first successes at the $25 k level. She reached the final at Sutton in February 2009 when she wzs 17 and 3/4 and won Waterloo on clay in early June 2009 just after she was 18. Of course it was another 3 years before she could represent GB.
I wonder if we'll see her next week now? A couple of days ago her coach said she planned to play Mumbai, and then some training blocks, but that was before 3 3 setters in as many days (even if today's wasn't necessarily that long).
So just to round up the final score in one place... It means Naiktha has lost two finals in a row, and will just fail to enter the top 200 when these points go on. In the meantime Emma ploughs on - though I wish OER would update their website - since my estimate is that Emma will now enter the GB top 10 at around 340 in the rankings And who knows how high she might go next year, depending on how much she plays (A levels it would seem permitting). It may well mean like this year she does not progress much early in the year, but plays more once it comes towards the grass court season. We shall see I guess, though it would seem obvious she has the potential to be one of our highest ranked women players well, since Jo.
She won't have external exams in 2020 although I personally am in favour of prioritising academics until atleast A levels are done. Apart from hedging their bets it also means young bodies are not pushed to the extreme while developing and gives the player a normallish life. Although Anton isn't everyones cup of tea, seeing him run over to his school mates after he beat the No1 seed was quite refreshing.
Based on her victory speech, it confirms the post in the 'coaches' thread, that our own forumite Matt James is there, with Emma, as her main coach and working with her at the LTA.

Emma will 'only' go up to 124 points and GB #13 on Monday week ie. 73 points in the latest 16/12 rankings for precisely WR 500 plus 51 points for Q and title here.
The GB #11 and #12 are Fran and Mandy, for current and next week's rankings both on 138 points and currently (16/12) WR 351 and 352 respectively. Katy D is just ahead as GB #10, currently WR 349 on 139 points.
Hopefully Emma can pass these three based on her results this coming week ( the SF would do it ). A repeat title and she would also pass Maia and Katie B to be GB #8. Maybe getting a bit greedy now!
Great to see anyway and I think confirmation thst there is not a lot to worry about as she for now juggles her tennis snd her schooling. When she plays for a bit she starts winning and winning at higher levels.

Huge congrats to Emma.
And well done, Matt, too !
that's cool, well done Matt!
Out of interest, what is Matt's forum profile name?

Emma was listed as top of the Q list acceptances for Mumbai next week but she does not appear in the Q draw or the Main draw and there is an extra slot for qualifiers in the Main draw.

Matt has been her main coach for a while. He was at Bolton with her earlier in the season.
