From both Nell's and Jasmine's performances here, one thing this tournament in far away Oklahoma shows is the value of W15 tournaments to help players get a foot on the ranking ladder. Both these two players should have WTA rankings. They are good enough and have had rankings previously, losing them only because of the lack of appropriate playing opportunities.
I wonder if anyone at the LTA even knows these two are playing here this week, or can care a toss? It really does show up the myopia and obstinacy in the LTA's thinking that it still won't reconsider the doing away with all tournaments in the UK at this level.
I remember watching the $10K event in Bournemouth in 2011. Players in that tournament included unranked Katie Boulter and Katie Dunne, Sam Murray. Liam Broady was also there and went on to reach the junior finals in Winbledon a few months later. It was one of our few clay court events and for several years provided a good venue for our young players early in the UK season.
