The first set of Freyas match was a mess on both sides but she appears to have got it together in the 2nd set and is now 4-0 up and has won 20 of a possible 24 points
She often (it seems to me) starts nervously, plays a tight, poor first set. Then loosens up wonderfully in the second and goes for it. But then, in the third set, all the nervous problems come back again.

Well... that seems to be summing up Freya very aptly today for sure... You wonder quite how she lost that first set, especially when she promptly swept her opponent off the court in the second.. And now in the third, she's struggling to stay on serve.. She has saved a BP though, so... 6-7(5) 6-1 2-2*
Really positive from Emma thus far....

It ended up going with the odds. I didn't want to discredit Emma by referencing the Greek opponents losing streak, as it's still another very good top 300 win, against someone with a couple of W25 titles this season, and of course a guaranteed Brit in the QF now :)
Really interesting match that will be. I think I'd slightly lean towards Emma at this stage.
Who would you like to see win out of Katie and Emma tomorrow?
It really is an interesting match between 2 of our most significant, or potentially significant, players in terms of eventual WTA / Grand Slam main draw representation. You've got Katie who's already made the top 100 and qualified for overseas slams directly (and hopefully on her way back), against a player who a lot would expect to get there within the next 3 years or so.
I was leaning more towards Emma as I think she'd probably have more chance in a potential QF against Eikeri (although hopefully against Freya), but at this stage, I think it is more important for Katie to get a few more matches, and wins, under her belt heading into an important January. Emma is also scheduled to be in India for an extra week (16th), so another chance for her to add a few more points, and although she usually reaches the QF / SF of these W25 events, she has already beaten a seed, so rankings-wise at least (if not odds), she's technically already done better than the numbers would suggest.
Normally I'm quite happy for GB players to meet in the 2nd or 3rd round to guarantee further interest, but a bit disappointing here as it would have been nice for both to go a bit further.
They're 3rd on tomorrow (play starts at 4am), so I'll be closely following the scores over breakfast.
