After a poor year, a falling ranking and limited income, I wonder if there is anywhere for Scott to go from here?

The more I think about it, the more tennis needs to somehow regionalise the circuits at the lower levels. In golf they have a series of global events at Major and WGC level plus some other big events, but the main tours are regional ie US PGA, European, Asian Tours. Below that they have tiers of regional Challenger level tours and below that national level tours and events. The players can learn their trade and get their first ranking points within their own country.

Tennis and indeed the ITF should really have looked at some sort of regional structuring at ITF level; organise events in those regions and get players to align to their region by committing to play a certain number of events in region but having freedom (for those who want it) to play a few events outside of their region.

At Challenger level, players can start to globetrot as they aim at the big ATP level leagues in due course, but at ITF level surely something more locally based, with less travel time and cost, would make a lot more sense.

I created an ITF strategy thread for ones like this. The trouble would be Europe has about 70% of the ITF futures. So it would almost just end up like a Euro Tour. With all the players from other regions having to move to Europe.

Thank you for the three replies to my question.

There definitely needs to be more futures and challengers in the UK but we have been there before on this forum! Maybe the format will change a bit one day along the lines of the above ideas to save on travelling expenses etc, we will wait and see!
