Excellent win for Destinee over a top 1000 player. No luck for the other two, altough good score from Eliz against a top-500 player.

A really excellent MTB there from Destinee.

She was the more aggressive player all through it. Backhand did some real damage and she was the one coming forward. Touch and go really tight, but she deserved it.

3-6 6-1 10-8

Super result against a very well-ranked player.

So, I make that Destinee's second WTA point, but her first one comes off in a mid-December? Is that right?

It's two points from Djibouti, and they drop off on 30th December

Right. I meant second counter, not second actual point, my bad. But that's right, then? And so not much time to get a third that will have any real meaning.

Not that that makes any difference, of course, she's just there to try and win her matches and progress, whatever.

That does look a very good win as the opponent has had some notable scalps in recent months, admittedly on clay where she has played about 90% of her 2019 matches, but she did also reach the W15 semi final last week on the same surface / location. Well done.

The outdoor carpet there is sand filled and quite like clay (lower bounce but slow, it seemed to me, and you slide).

And the woman seemed to be playing well (she wasn't injured or anything). So, yes, great result.

And, as said, deserved - Destinee was on the front foot for all the bits I saw.

Mixed fortunes for our trio.

Mandy has a LL first, but is then in line to face top seed and AO main draw chasing Niculescu (who is also here next week) in round 2, so an extended run will be tough.

Jodie has another match with Indy De Vroome, who is the 6th seed here.

Destinee plays 2nd seed Mariam Bolkvadze.

On a side note, the Morderger twins who have been in the UK a few times this year, and one of them beat Eliz M last week, face each other in R1.

That is pretty bad fortunes all round IMO.

Yeah, I forgot Mandy had already reached a few W25 SFs this year, and was kind of thinking 5 points won't be too bad here, but it's not ideal when you think of it in the context of the year. If she does beat this LL, she would at least add to her tally as she has a 1 pt counter she could replace and end 2019 in the GB top 10, even if it would be too late for our predictions smile

Can't see much joy from the others though.
