Germany ( the very probable Group C winners so GB group winner's QF opponents ) deny Argentina a doubles win, winning the final set 7-6(18) to deny Argentina that consolation in their likely 2nd place record.
The best match score we can now have if we lose the Kazakhstan tie is 3-3 ( if we lose 1-2 ). There is only yet one likely 2nd placed team guaranteed to be better ( Russia 4-2 ), Argentina being on 3-3 after losing that mamoth doubles final set TB to Germany.
However, if defeated by Kazakhstan we can't match the Argentina sets score 8-6 (57%). We are currently 5-3 in sets. Best in a loss would be 4-4, putting us on a final 9-7 (56%)
Therefore, assuming Russia finish 2nd behind Spain in Group B and Argentina 2nd behind Germany in Group C, we will have to beat Kazakhstan to progress.
( as previously discussed, all 2nd place teams will be 1-1 for ties so matches won and lost will be the first divider and then sets ).

Needing to win is at least clear. Against Kazakhs I fancy the doubles, the singles will be interesting. Kukushkin is dangerous, not sure which of our guys is best playing him. We need to ensure we beat Bublik. It would need to be Andy or Kyle as Dan will be number one if he plays. Id rather save Andy for the QF and play Kyle and Dan tomorrow to be honest but it is a tough call.
Kukushkin beat Kyle when they played on grass, Id rather give Dan another go at #1.

The italy v usa and belgium v Australia matched will make things a lot clearer, 3 of the 6 groups will be finished tonight.
I'm quite relieved there'll be no repercussions from that 6-0 6-0 USA win. Imagine if Argentina were out of the equation and it was GB who were directly affected by only a couple of games - our media would have an absolute field day. They really will have to sort that out for next year.
I've really enjoyed the past few days, some excellent tennis, and more to come, but there's obviously a few issues they'll need to iron out, like a potential very late finish in the Italy-USA and Australia-Belgium ties (now that Goffin has just broke), probably even later than yesterday - they really could do with it being 10 or 14 days so that it's not all squeezed in and a little bit rushed, or at least try and find an additional court to spread the ties out a bit.
Not sure if it was mentioned on here, but interestingly, Djokovic mentioned earlier that he'd like the ATP Cup and this to merge, like a lot of people, and that it'd be better earlier in the year, and he mentioned September (that'll go down well with Roger, ha), but it would be fantastic if they could work something out - even possibly have something in April when the Fed Cup is one. My absolute ideal scenario would be to have a 2 week period in the calendar and have the DC and FC played in the same venue (but seperate competitions, not mixed doubles are anything), maybe knock both down to 12 nations for logistical reasons, but have them both compete for their respective cup competitions and it'll be like a proper world competition, and almost like a 5th major. I'd love that.
I don't like the way Eurosport show stuff delayed - this Berrettini match is a few games behind which seems pointless - why wouldn't you show it live? It was the same yesterday, they were showing the Colombia-Australia doubles match about an hour after it had finished while the Spain-Russia crucial doubles match was going on, and then they came into that match at 4-4 in the first set when there was no reason to. I get they are just using the world feed and it'll be out of their hands, but whoever is in charge of that wants to get their act sorted.
De Menaur has just beaten Goffin, so the Aussies have a 2-0 lead in that tie and have qualified. I haven't checked if the Belgians are still in contention as they will be 3-3 if they beat the doubles, but not sure if that's enough to edge past Argentina.
