Week 47 - Davis Cup Finals - Madrid, Spain - (Indoor, Hard).

I wonder how many of the British players we all follow have made it across for the tie - anyone noticed many mention it on Twitter etc?

Last-minute change:  Pablo Carreño replaced by Feliciano López in the match against Kyle.

R1:  Kyle Edmund WR 69 vs Feliciano López (ESP) WR 62 (CH = 12 in March 2015 - he's now 38)

From bbc live thread:

Breaking news from the Spain camp...

Pablo Carreno Busta is out, and Feliciano Lopez is set to face Kyle Edmund instead.

That's a very, very late change. I thought the teams had to be submitted an hour before the match ?

Do GB still have time to switch and put Murray against Lopez? Would that be a better match up stats ppl?

Jonathan Jurejko on the Beeb's live commentary page:

Drama o'clock! Shortly before the teams are set to walk out, the Spanish have announced Feliciano Lopez will replaced the injured Pablo Carreno Busta in the opening singles against Kyle Edmund.  Although Spanish journalists here in Madrid had been saying for the past few hours that Carreno Busta wasn't fit. Hmmm. Gamesmanship from the hosts?

Kyle's reaction:

My mindset doesn't change, I need to go out and give it my best. Obviously everyone found out recently and that's just the way it is.

Miles Maclagan:

There is big, big pressure on Kyle Edmund because if he is beaten here by Lopez, then nobody is going to give Great Britain much of a chance.

From twitter:-

Reason for Carreños withdrawal is left leg injury confirmed by a neutral doctor after the nominations.

But unless he sustained it after the nominations, he shouldn't be allowed to pull out.

I'm sorry but that's cheating!
Surely diagnosing a leg injury must be done before nominations. They have waited to see the GB selection before completing their ruze.
