Week 47 - Davis Cup Finals - Madrid, Spain - (Indoor, Hard).

Good to see from the BBC live text that the Count is in attendance, I had thought he had stopped following tennis post-Bogdanovic.

The Serbian team and Captain where apparently in tears in press conference, Troicki inconsolable, tears all round incl Djoko. Players certainly up for this event!

 Also Tipsy's last match ever.

Go Kyle!
The app on my phone still says 5-5 in the first set (and also has the wrong names....)

Rather annoyingly the live scoreboard turns out to be around 2 points ahead of the live radio commentary. Maybe around a minute difference...

Busta takes the first set against Pella on the TB, he was 1-3 down but win the next 6 points. I was hoping Pella would have taken that rubber to make it more likely go down to the doubles. Got that match on in the background to Kyle on the TV.

Get in Kyle. 6-3 7-5, so guaranteed to at worst have a deciding doubles rubber. Hopefully Evo can avoid that, but Struff will be tough on this court I reckon.

Great to see Kyle playing well and on form again.

How fast is the surface? The Radio commentators were just discussing how Evo had in essence been over powered by Haase and Bublik and Struff could be the same, it suggests the court is playing fast? I think I calculated that 1/3rd of all sets so far have gone to a tie break, suggesting breaks arent easy to come by.

Maybe not quite as fast as last week at the O2, but it does seem to be playing pretty fast (which I prefer - it was too slow in the WTA finals in Shenzhen IMO).

You also have to take into account that Madrid is at altitude.  At well over 2000 ft, the ball travels much faster through the air as well.

That was a terrific performance again from Kyle today. I really do think this team atmosphere has helped him regain some form and confidence. Hoping there is still plenty more to come this week from him and that he can then carry this forward into next year.

Allez Evo.

PCB 7-6 6-7 Pella, well past the 2 hour mark there.

Comment by Miles Maclagen in the Beeb's text commentary:

Boy, that's an impressive performance by Edmund. It almost seemed like plain sailing.  smile

Report on the match itself.
