Last 8 now looking like:

Serbia or France v Russia

Canada v Australia

GB or Kazakhstan (winner of tie between them) v Germany or Argentina (depending if Germany or Chile win last group match)

Spain v other runner up.

Germany takes the opening singles and with it guarantees top spot in their group.

So, winners of GB match versus Kazakhstan will play Germany in the QF round. Argentina are second in that group and that result will now eliminate Belgium who have a worse record than Argentina. Which is probably good given they got that walkover win last night in the doubles.

Serbia or France v Russia

Canada v Australia

GB or Kazakhstan (winner of tie between them) v Germany

Spain v other runner up. (currently Argentina are in this position, only other team that can take best RU spot would now be Serbia if they dont win their group)

Would the real Kyle Edmund, please stand up. I think he just did. That was a devastating display.

Hoping Evo can seal the win. It would mean that all 5 players have contributed a victory to the cause.

Stuart Fraser reporting that we cannot go through as one of the best two runners up. So it's win or out.

From the BBC website:

That's a huge victory for Kyle Edmund. Only his fifth of the calendar year!

Had Kyle only won 4 matches this year before today ? I know it has been a tough year but I didn't realise it was that bad.

Brilliant win from Kyle - I'm so pleased for him. Really pleased he got the chance to play as this is the perfect environment for him to rediscover his confidence with all the team there supporting him

thats correct, if we lose this match 2-1, as Indi reported last night, we would now have an equal rubbers won lost record to Argentina but would only be able to get a best sets record of 9-7, and Argentina are on 8-6 so would trump us on percentage of sets won.

So we need to win!

That can't be right. Must be in double figures

Yes.  Just been looking through his results. Haven't counted them up but there are a lot more than 5.  Perhaps they mean "straight sets" wins on something like that.

Serbia win the opening singles and now the RU spot is clear - if Serbia go on to win, Argentina will take the spot. If Serbia lose , then France will top the group and Serbia will take the RU spot alongside Russia. So, basically, Serbia are confirmed as through and the last spots are now down to Argentina (as second best RU)/France (if they win the group) and GB and Kazakhstan still to play out.

Phew.
