With Medvedev unable to do Nadal a turn, losing by 6-4 7-6(4) to Zverev, we have as SFs :
Tsitsipas vs Federer Thiem vs Zverev
And doubles :
Klaasen & Venus vs Cabal & Farah Herbert & Mahut vs Kubot & Melo
Klaasen and Venus are playing their last event as a pair this week, it would ironic if they won this!
Also, I would have to question the validity of this if Cabal and Farah end up winning after losing their first two matches. And they may very well do so!
Question the validity in what sense? Farah & Cabal"s final group win against Krawietz & Mies was a must win for both pairs. Cabal & Farah won it and got through after Kubot & Melo won later against Rojer & Tecau who were also needing to win.
Now both they and Klaasen & Venus, the winners of the other group, presumably want to go further.

In the sense that a pair losing two matches in one event can end up as tour champions / world champions.
Dont get me wrong, I think the round Robin works in this type of event, I just like my champions to not lose twice and ideally ot lose at all, although the singles event cant deliver that, and that's fine.
Congrats to Klaasen and Venus in reaching final, hadnt realised Venus is a London resident, so I guess he provides the nearest to a home support opportunity
Question - Do the ATP finals still count as a "bonus" event in singles and doubles?
Yes.
So does the new ATP Cup next year, to controversy.
Re the ATP finals it is just a 19th 'bonus' counter for singles, whereas it feeds in as a non mandatory towards one of your maximum 18 counters for doubles. Though in practice some of the singles players didn't have a maximum 18 coming in here.
I don't know how the ATP Cup counters are going to be treated.
Great to see Jo reaching the ATP finals and Memphis College tennis getting some publicity.
Memphis are a very solid tennis programme who although they play Division 1 mens tennis are in a second tier conference a level below the 5 power conferences. They have heavily recruited British juniors over the last decade. Jo is the first to really progress in the pro game, primarily down to an early decision to specialise in the less competitive area of doubles. Jo did well at college but didnt dominate nationally he seems to have been extremely focused in making his way as a pro. He is now 27 he has obviously done really well but my impression is that it is the work he has done post college has lifted him to a new level.
MY QUESTION IS
It would be interesting to know what sort of help and support to develop a doubles career Henry Patten is getting. Does anyone know?
Henry (with Oli Nolan) really put University of North Carolina Asheville on the college tennis map, dominating a weak conference in singles and doubles throughout his time at college and then winning a national doubles championship! My impression is the LTA almost need to be embarrassed into supporting college players and facilitating transition (ref Paul Jubb).
Just to note that, with many pundits some 15 years ago heralding the death of the single-handed backhand, THREE out of FOUR semi-finalists here have a single hander.

Henry is at Durham University on a tennis scholarship which helps fund his education and training. Other than that he has received no support.
Who were you imagining should support him? The LTA, his county tennis association or others?
