Reading twitter etc, I hadn't appreciated zverev was known to be diabetic with type 1. Not sure if it is true, but seems to be widely known and the reason behind his misunderstood issue yesterday.
Firstly, if it is true, hats off to him for performing so well despite it, I understand his family has a history.
And also, poor show on thos journeys that spread rumours about him using his phone on court, they should do their research.
Of course if it isnt correct, my bad , but it seems well known
For mens tennis that is epic. If nadal gets 2nd in group and plays thiem, thiem will stand a chance of beating all the big 3 in one event. Wow.
Djoko v Federer will be interesting as well!
I wonder if anyone has ever done this. Beaten Fed, Nadal and Djoko all in the same event? It would very much doubt it but would be very interested if someone could prove me wrong!
To answer my own question, David Nalbandian did at the 2007 Madrid Masters. He beat Rafa in the quarters, Novak in the semis then Fed in final!
Rafa is Year end World #1 and is the oldest ever to achieve that and for the 5th time in his career. Kudos and definitely makes him one of the greatest of all time
And amazing for Federer to beat Djoko at age 38, nearly 40 for hecks sake, also one of the greatest ever.
Hard to say either is the so called GOAT (I actually believe Rod Laver is the GOAT, and I also believe Bjorn Borg would have been the GOAT with spades added if he had played for 6 or so more years, but he didnt - so it is folly to speculate). but we clearly live in times of some great players.
The last few days of these events should be lively! It has been a very good event!
So as well as Rafa ending the year at #1 ( potentially now well clear with another 1100 points available if he was to win the title here ), Novak will miss out on the last couple of months of the year as #1 in his pursuit of Fed's total weeks at #1. And he then has the Australian Open title to defend ( though Rafa also waa RU ) so Rafa could be WR 1 for quite a while.
Weeks at ATP #1 : 1. Federer 310 2. Sampras 286 3. Djokovic 275 4. Lendl 270
5. Connors 268
6. Nadal 199 after this week

(The only other active player on the list, I believe)

With Cabal and Farah beating Krawietz and Mies, then if Rojer and Tecau get one set this evening then they will join Herbert and Mahut in the semis I believe; if they lose in straigh sets then Cabal and Farah will make it now. If Rojer and Tecau win then they will top the group and push Herbert and Mahut down to 2nd place (they H&M are through regardless, it is just about position).
Nadal needs to win and hope Medvedev bests Zverev ( Nadal would then win the group on H2H ). Otherwise Nadal would be bottom of a 2/2/2 sets tiebreak so 3rd and out.
Nadal is out if he loses since one of Zverev or Medvedev would beat him in any 1/1/1 sets tiebreak to claim 2nd behind Tsitsupas.

And so nadal went on to win in another excellent match, this must be one of the best weeks for this event in london.
It's been absolutely superb pretty much all week. Don't really mind who goes through here, but my biggest fear would be a limp effort from Medvedev to cost Nadal, after a near 3 hr epic earlier. If Zverev played really well and won a good match then I'd be happy enough with that. Zverev with an early break, *3-2
Saturday's semi final order of play was out last night:
With Medvedev unable to do Nadal a turn, losing by 6-4 7-6(4) to Zverev, we have as SFs :
Tsitsipas vs Federer Thiem vs Zverev
And doubles :
Klaasen & Venus vs Cabal & Farah Herbert & Mahut vs Kubot & Melo
Klaasen and Venus are playing their last event as a pair this week, it would ironic if they won this!
Also, I would have to question the validity of this if Cabal and Farah end up winning after losing their first two matches. And they may very well do so!
