SF: (5) Jay Clarke WR 170 beat (7) Roberto Ortega (ESP) WR 248 (CH = 240 last month) 6-3 6-2
2nd SF underway between Duckworth and Ramanathan. It was Ramanathan who beat Jay last week and he is already up an early break in his SF. Get the feeling though from what I have seen that Jay is playing much better this week than last week.

Jay does have a 2-1 record versus Ramanathan though and against Duckworth is 1 all, with a recent loss in Playford challenger, if we take out Jay's withdrawal to Duckworth at nottingham this summer.
Clarke's coaching setup appears to be composed of close family members. Would additional coaching support at serious ATP level, perhaps via an academy (Mourataglou, Sanchez Casal etc) possibly help him make that quality jump he's evidently struggled to make as of late? I watched a couple of his qualifying matches at Wimbledon two years ago and he looked every inch the budding full professional. I would have expected him then to have made ATP top 100 or very close, by now so something is holding him back.

I think he has had some injury issues in the 2nd half of the season. Nothing made public, but comments a few weeks ago were on the lines of "great to be pain free again". Given those issues, it is remarkable to think that he is only 1 place of his CH in the live rankings and would take that out with a win tomorrow, entering the top 150 for the first time in the process.
And over the last year or two I am sure I have read of certain 'names' getting involved in his coaching.
I am not sure of the details such as how much or for how long they were involved but quality assistance has been introduced beyond the family. Though it looks like they have always been there for him.
I thought he went to Mourataglous academy after Wimbledon and then for some bizarre reason then did a few Clay tournaments in the lead up to the US Open. Maybe there was a reason for that but it seemed a very strange decision at the time although maybe he was carrying an injury that they felt would be exacerbated on a hard court.
