RE: Graeme Dyce. One for the future??

That's good news, Dan will progress a lot faster by playing the futures rather than grade 4 junior tournaments. The doubles success he's had with Mark Hilton must be confidence boosting too.

Two minutes ago, I realised that Dyce does have a great chance of playing AO Juniors as a direct entrant next year.

That's because.... it's in 2007!! So loads of players will not be allowed to play 18&U tennis any more!

Even Daniel Cox has a chance if he does well at Eddie Herr.

That's great news, it was a bit depressing earlier this year, not having any representatives in the juniors and we could have 4 in the AO !!

When does Eddie Herr start ?

Eddie Herr stats on the 28th of November. That's the week before Orange Bowl.

Loads of our boys will be there at Eddie Herr and most probably Orange Bowl - Dyce, Cox, Barnes, Rice, Milton and many more.

Cox could play 16&U tennis for one last time at Orange Bowl. He'll have a chance of winning the title if he plays well and the Orange Bowl 16&U is the most prestigious tournament of that age group.

That said, I think that Cox will play the 18&U event. His senior ranking point drops off that week, but there are no Futures!!

Is it a GA ?

How far do you reckon Cox and Milton need to go in order to make the Aussie Open cut ?

He ought to go for the Orange Bowl U16s, could be his best chance of securing the most prestigious junior title after the slams.

Are you speaking about Eddie Herr? It's a G1.

It's a bit difficult to predict the cut offs because the rankings can change a lot during a month. In 2005, the cut off was 125, so I reckon a ranking of around 110 should do it. That's just a guess.

Cox will have to gain 40 more points for that and Josh needs 70.

Just discovered that they play a G2 in Thailand next week.
I'm pretty confident of seeing Cox in the AO. Josh will have to work hard for it, but he can do it.

Cox should go for the U16s, but my guess is that he will play U18s where the fields are stronger. When he was 13 years old, he had the option of playing in Le Petit As in Tarbes, which is unofficially taken to be the 14&U world championship and Petit Princes, which is the 13&U edition of the same tournament. Cox chose to play 14&U and surprisingly reached the finals! (Incidentally, Andy Murray also reached the finals there.)

I should imagine that there'll be a huge amount of players dropping out of the top 100 though, because they won't be eligible any more. Dyce could surely move up to about no 50 without having to win anything. If that's the case Cox and Milton should have a really good chance of making the cut.

Maybe Dan feels that by entering a higher age group he's pushing himself more, and that competing against bigger and stronger players will help him to improve faster. He can definately stay with those guys in terms of power from the baseline, having beaten two players ranked in the 500s in the seniors.

Quiz question: Who was the last British player [boy or girl] to win the Orange Bowl ? [and you're not allowed to use the ITF site and cheat ]

Yeah, Cox started playing Futures when he was eligible for 14&U tennis, so his game his ahead of his age even though he is physically weak.

I have a great urge to use ITF or Google, but I won't. Enlighten me....

Brewer won the Banana bowl on clay in Brazil as a junior, a GA event and one of the most presitigous junior titles but he didn't win the Orange Bowl.
