L32: (3) Matteo Berrettini (ITA) WR 11 (= CH) vs Kyle Edmund WR 55 (CH = 14 in October last year)
He's gonna be stuffed!
He did win their only previous h2H in Beijing last year in a long 3 setter!
Draw has Thiem v Tsonga in first round, good match up, and Rublev v FAA, Chung v Raonic.
Some interesting matches
For Cam, qualifiers play Dimitrov, Pella, Sinner or Sonego. Sonego and Pella are probably the ones he would prefer. All beatable or tough depending on whether you are a glass half full or empty person!
Kohlschreiber is also 36 now which shows when he comes up against top opposition as well. Cam has been unlucky in missing out on main draw and masters spots by a couple of positions recently. Hopefully next season he wont have such a problem.
QR1: (q1) Luke Bambridge & Ben McLachlan (JPN) CR 98 (48+50) defeated (qWC) Lucas Miedler & Dennis Novak (AUT/AUT) CR 1546 (238+1208) by 6-3 3-6 [10-3]
Not quite as easy as I expected, given the respective combined rankings!
Ive seen loads of these types of posts recently where people are surprised by doubles results and refrained from commenting but honestly guys it doubles, the nature of this stream of sport is anything is possible. 40% lottery, 40% partner choice, 20% performance.
Gee, Colombia's Cabal and Farah must be so lucky. 2610 points ahead of anyone else in the rankings, rather further ( like nearly double any other pair ) in this year's race. The last 2 Slams won.
Guess the kind of luck the Bryans have had in the past. And to a lesser extent these other names and players that feature year after year.
You may have little truths, Jaggy, and clear preferences, but your percentages are garbage IMHO.
Re specifically Bambridge and McLachlsn, as has recently been commented on, they are short of wins of late, so probably short of form and/or confidence just like can happen to singles players. And/or yes a fairly new partnership that just isn't really clicking. So personally I was not hugely surprised that they made such hard work of that win relative to the rankings. Though of course surprise scorelines do happen anyway in singles and in doubles. I hope for Luke that they can pick things up.
