Andy seemed to make rather heavy weather of that, but at least he got there in the end.

L16:  (8) Pablo Cuevas (URU) WR 45 (CH = 19 in August 2016) vs (PR) Andy Murray WR 243

That should move Joe and Rajeev up to 7th place as they will get the SF points still

QF:  (PR) Andy Murray WR 243 vs (Q) Marius Copil (ROU) WR 92 (CH = 56 in January)

Copil took almost 2¾ hours to put out Schwartzman (3) in three sets earlier.  The head-to-head is 2-0  in Andy's favour (last 32 of the Madrid Masters on clay in 2017 (4 & 3) & last 16 in Washington on hard last year (6-7(5) 6-3 7-6(4)).

Watch out Evo. You Nº1 spot is going to come under pressure very soon.

Great to see Andy putting back to back wins together. The scoreline looks a lot more comprehensive than yesterday, although I didn't see the match itself.

All 5 seeds got beat today. Just Stan and Pella remain from top 50 players. Andy will never have a better chance of winning a tournament than this. Be great if he could do it.

And, indeed, Tennis Abstract do in fact make Stan v Andy the most likely final, with Stan the favourite.

Andy of course beat Copil in Washington DC famously when hampered by his hip. He should be beyond him now he is getting back to fitness.

That's the best he's played since he came back and still so much more room for improvement.

I think that the lad could turn out to be quite good.
