18 points now in the bag! This is turning into a bit of a breakthrough week for the lad.

For the record:

L16:  Jack Draper WR 340 defeated (17) Donald Young (USA) WR 233 by 6-3 7-6(1)  biggrin

*****

QF:  (12) Christopher O'Connell (AUS) WR 192 (= CH) vs Jack Draper WR 340

It feels like 18 points for beating jack sock and donald young isnt really fair!

Though I guess their names are currently well ahead of their ranking points. I knew of Sock's travails but Young's fall had passed me by.

Not exactly mugs either though and great to see from our Jack.

Peter Polanksy was finding his inner Heather Watson, saving 7 MPs in the tie break (4 in a row), but not enough and loses in straight sets (and forced to 'shake hands'), so Jack should be on soon.

Kevin King follows up beating (2) Kudla by beating (8) Polansky and in the SF will play the winner of the next match on court

(12) O'Connell vs Draper

Coming soon ...

Jack D time now. Miraculously the previous match didn't go to three sets. (10 - 8 in 2nd set tie break), if it had I was quitting.

Looks as if a few of us were following that and wanted it done and dusted.

I've never seen O'Connell, and have barely heard of him, so not the best person to make a prediction, but he has been winning his matches convincingly recently as you mentioned earlier, and is on a bit of a streak himself. I don't know when he played his R2 match but with Jack playing Young at 7pm local, and now back on at 2.30pm local the next day, that's a tight turnaround, and the Aussie is the slight betting fave. Throw in a possible come down of playing back to back fairly illustrious US opponents, I'm going to maybe expect the worse, but hope for the best, and I will be tuning in.

Just got back from my long travels and tuned in to watch. Thought Jack looked a bit jaded. The comments above explain why.

Oh well, O'Connell made few errors and served so consistently and Jack looked physically shattered I thought.
