World Athletics

Surprised that there isn't a thread for this already.  There have been some stand out performances from the Brits in these championships, none more so than KJT finally winning the Heptathlon gold.  Delighted for her.  Think she took Jess Ennis's points record too ?  Or was that just points record for the Worlds ?

Dina Asher-Smith has stolen the show along with KJT , from a British perspective, and has 3 medals now, with the relay. 2 golds, 3 silvers to date and it is looking healthier in several events eg mens 1500m where we had 3 finalists.

Roll on tokyo

Callum Hawkins sure knows how to make a marathon dramatic.

It was a British record. 6981 points vs Jess's 6955 from London 2012. Just the 4 personal bests! Great to see it all go so right and her beaming so often.

Pleased to see this thread - I wanted to start one earlier in the week but didn't know how!! Dina and KJT were both superb. Also with a fair few 4th and 5th place finishes (Callum Hawkins, Holly Bradshaw, Adam Gemili etc), they can hopefully improve and be vying for medals at the Olympics next year.

For those who are not aware, I'm very heavily connected with Liverpool Harriers and I'm technically KJT's team manager as I run the senior ladies team - Kat hasn't competed for a while now though.....
We also had Jamie Webb, who made the semi final of the 800m and Tim Duckworth, who injured himself warming up for the decathlon.

Liverpool went a bit mad on Friday.
Our clubs social media was inundated and we had loads of press coverage.

KJT is awesome, she's been a fave ever since those ridiculous high jumps off a standing start in Bejing 2015.

I don't think she kept it together mentally until the Euros last year, now she's got it.

KJT suffered mentally from the expectation put on her from the press, but has started to gain some confidence mainly from being more independent and under a fresh coaching set up.

Such a tough business heptathlon/Decathlon, I had the good fortune to be at college with Oluyinka Idowu who you have probably never heard of but jumped in the 92 Olympics and won a long jump silver at the 94 Commonwealth games. Fair to say she never reached her peak as an athlete, she used to ask some spectacular questions in class and I think had to study very hard making her silver medal at the end of the first year an amazing achievement. She was also a superb high hurdler and quicker than our first XV wingers, quite a humbling realisation for them. KJT holds all the junior points records (ie junior and intermediate girls) but not that for the seniors which remains Yinkas. What might have been.

Because KJT moved to Montpellier and is based there now, she has been in the French press a fair bit. Some funny articles about her experience of French life (like: "people here of my age go out to dinner and chat, it was really weird, at home everyone just watches box sets")

Taking this thread up again from 2019 and it's KJT time again and a second world title.

Terrific second day with a great long jump, javelin personal best and superbly controlled 800m, keeping the big American threat within range at what must have been at least close to her personal best again.

Great after all she's been through and now based back in the UK.

Hope that really made paulisi's day too

Ah, the BBC website says it was an 800m personal best for KJT at 2 min 5.63 secs.

Great atmosphere in Budapest, helped by it being men's 100m final evening and by a Hungarian hammer thrower ( who ultimately won bronze ).

Well done to Zharnel Hughes on his bronze medal in 9.88 seconds in a very tight 100m.
