Week 41 - ATP Masters 1000 - Rolex Shanghai Masters - Shanghai, China (hard)

QF: (6) Nicolas Mahut & Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA/FRA) CR 26 (22+4) beat Rajeev Ram (USA) & Joe Salisbury CR 45 (16+29) 6-3 3-6 [18-16]

They only had match points on return, but had plays on every single one of them. Heartbreaker, that was a big match for them.

QF:  Jamie Murray & Neal Skupski CR 41 (10+31) defeated (4) Raven Klaasen & Michael Venus (RSA/NZL) CR 22 (9+13) by 6-3 7-6(5)   biggrin

They first served for the match at 5-4, went four break points down & got it back to deuce, only to capitulate!

*****

SF:  (8) Mate Pavic & Bruno Soares (CRO/BRA) CR 44 (23+21) vs Jamie Murray & Neal Skupski CR 41 (10+31)

Tsitsipas takes out Djokovic and Zverev takes out Federer. Excellent!

A very refreshing final 5. I'd like to see Berrettini complete the semi final line up, but if not then it'll be 3, 4, 5 and 6 in the semi's and not one over 26 either way (didn't realise Thiem had a birthday recently), which is not something you often say in big events.

Matteo B!!!

So that's:

Medvedev 23 vs Tsitsipas 21
Berrettini 23 vs Zverev 22

Got to be one of the youngest Masters 1000 semi final line ups for quite some time.

I'd be happy with 7 of the 8 QFs here to be in London as well, with Rafa replacing Fabio. The Berrettini vs Zverev winner will be in a decent position to join the 6 who are already confirmed.

That is quite THE line up for the SF's. Also nice to not see the big 3 there for a change...

Yep, and with no big 3, I'm pleased it's not just a bunch of Cilic's, Anderson's, Raonic's and Isner's filling in. Quite exciting.

Neal up to GB #2, just ahead of Joe, and live he is at a CH 26, though if Jamie & Neal lose the SF Bruno will knock Neal back to his current CH 27.

16 J Murray 3885

26  N Skupski 3450

27 J Salisbury 3430

29 B Soares 3380

And Jamie and Neal move ahead of Jamie and Bruno in the Race. In the time since Jamie and Bruno split, Jamie and Neal have won 1800 or so points and Bruno and Mate have won some 800 less, Jamie and  Neal clearly going well now. A tournie win here would place them right behind Joe and Rajeev and real contenders for the O2

It was a good run. Out of interest why where pavic and soares seeded 8th when their combined ranking was below jamie and neal, not that it matters?

Rankings are based on the previous week's rankings Jon, not the current weeks. The rankings shown here are the current week.
