Two players here in France this week, Emily App chasing points and Tiff. BUT, it's a strong field, Emily is not seeded and faces the 3rd seed first up. Not what she would have wanted.
Tiffany also plays Xenia Knoll, who was Anna Smith's last doubles partner before she got injured. I'm surprised to see her slumming it in a W15 tournament since she is WR96 in doubles. She is not playing doubles here, not surprisingly.
R32: Tiffany WILLIAM (GBR) vs Xenia KNOLL (SUI) 763 (CH:254)
Tiffany has done better against Xenia than I thought she might in a match lasting 2 hrs 43 mins, but in the end narrowly loses out. She's had several performances like this this year - good performances against higher ranked players that are just not good enough to take the points home. Tiff is near 100 places off her CH right now (764), but her tennis seems to be close to her being able to go higher if she gets more lucky with draws.

Yes good win for Emily, and a qualifier next so should be an easier match.

R16: Emily APPLETON (GBR) 632 vs Theo GRAVOUIL (FRA) [Q] 1184 (CH:491)
Although she's a qualifier, Théo was top 500 and is only recently turned 21.
She was a very promising youngster. She was French champion as a 14 year old.
Her dad was a top speed skater, European champion and silver medalist in the World championships, I think.
He was her trainer for ages, and may still be (Théo tried the elite FFT academy and didn;t like it, tried a private Spanish academy and didn't like it....)
She's had a lot of injuries (knee, I think).
Is known for being highly volatile on court.
She's certainly not fairly ranked at the moment, in my view. But hasn't had great results recently ....
When I looked at the discrepancy between her current rank and her CH, I was kinda expecting you would come up with a story CD... and you haven't disappointed!
Shame but, as above, not entirely unexpected. Looked close though.
R16: Emily APPLETON (GBR) 632 lost to Theo GRAVOUIL (FRA) [Q] 1184 (CH:491) 4-6 4-6
A shame indeed. Emily seems to be having a lot of trouble taking the next step up. She usually does ok in the 15k events but nothing else really. She's still young but how much longer will her Sky sponsorship last?
