Haha yes, happy to see that. That's the 3pts in the bag, now for the 5 pts and a spot in the MD.

However her next opponent is definitely not one that Tara would wish for now. As high as WR 284 just last August 20 year old Ms Mateas is on a come back from injury at the moment - and reached the QF of last week's W60 tournament, losing to the eventual winner Shelby Rogers in the QF. Tara will just have to hope she's tired now, she did need an MTB to get past the q7 seed today.

FQR: Tara MOORE (GBR) [q11] 507 vs Maria MATEAS (USA) 705 (CH:284 Aug 18)

Tara should return to the top 500. She is now live ranked 492.

With Emma R going to enter for the first time, that should see us with 17 in the top 500 next Monday.

This is a very good one for Tara, make no mistake. As I mentioned Mateas reached the QF of last week's W60 and beat Varvara LEPCHENKO, last week's top seed (WR 136 CH:19) along the way....

Oh heavens but NOT a good doubles result, and a decided case of lightning striking twice. Tara and Emina were 4-2 and 5-3 up in set 1 and 2 respectively, and in both sets contrived somehow to lose the last 4 games in a row...

L16: Bektas, Emina (USA) / Moore, Tara (GBR) CR480 (261+219) [3] lost to Stewart, Katerina (USA) / Talaba, Gabriela (ROU) CR824 (549+275) 4-6 5-7

Looks like we were all looking out for that result - so I won't post it again !

Not sure if it was covered last week, but saw this about the Templeton event.

"It's not often you see doubles partners get upset with each other at the pro level, but it happened last night. Emina Bektas (USA) and Tara Moore (GBR) looked like an old married couple. They just weren't getting along and if there's one rule in doubles, it's support your doubles partners no matter what. They both had attitudes but Bektas had a serious attitude. They were both cranky, edgy, irritable. It reminded me of playing mixed doubles with my ex-wife."

That was from the main USTA live stream commentator Ken Thomas, the one who always emphasises 'shake hands' at the end of a match. Doesn't sound great, and doubt this result will help.

Tara looks to have a reasonable 1st round match against Italian Gaia Sanesi, who just sneaked into the main draw. She'll have more of a clay pedigree of the two, but isn't coming into it in particularly great form.

That Mateas ended up being a LL, and she plays a top jr in Emma Navarro.
