No worries - I was following SC's example and set it up anticipating they would win from 5-3* !!

You had to wait a bit then. When I looked it was *5-6 30-40 and looking like it was going to go to the MTB, but Naiktha+ won the last two points to take it to the TB, and then they won that 7-0. So after letting their lead slip in that 2nd set they did in the end win the last 9 points.

I see there is a Roopa Bains (Born 2002) who is playing here as well this week in the qualifying singles and doubles. She must be Naiktha's sister, and i note she is playing under the Aus flag still.

There may be a connection, but I doubt if they are sisters. Roopa has been playing juniors in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji etc farily constantly over this year, and no signs of any matches further afield.

I seem to remember someone somewhere saying Roopa was Naiktha's cousin.

I'm pretty sure all she has is an older brother.

Roopa, I think, is the younger sister of Santokh Bains

Ah ok that would make sense. If you look at respective pictures there is some resemblance so I would be surprised if there is no relationship.

I had a look at Naiktha's singles record for 2019 and for the 1st half of the year she wasn't doing too badly but the second half has been a nightmare. In her first 13 tournaments up to the end of May she won 20 matches and lost 13. From June to date she has played 13 tournaments and won 2 matches. I hope it wasn't returning to Britain that's caused the decline.

Yes, her overall race position this season is 277 ( GB #7 ) which isn't that awful against her CH ranking of 222 - a ranking reached in June, basically around when results started to go rather into reverse.

It's just as well that it's not the time of year for Wimbledon wildcards because based on 2019 rankings only Heather and Harriet would get one. In a couple of cases (not injury related) you can't believe how far down the rankings players have fallen. Naiktha's record in 2019 is considerably better than Gabi Taylor's.

At least Naiiktha is fit and playing - unlike soo many others - a lot will depend of the rest of this year. A lot of players have ground to make up - it will be interesting to see who does and who doesn't smile

edited for typo
