Heather giving qualifying for the huge WTA events another go, but unlike last week, there isn't an alternative WTA event, and the only ITF event above W25 is a W60 on clay in the US, so worth playing especially as she is already in China.
Still tough, but a better chance of winning than she did last week against Peterson, and she has drawn the lowest seed that she could have. I thought the odds would be reasonably close, and the bookies have it 11/10 (Watson) vs 4/6.
Badosa has started to win a few matches on the main WTA tour since Wimbledon, and as a result she is at a career high.
Even the money side of things. I can't find figures for this year (easily anyway), but it looks exactly the same as last year, and accoring to wiki, Harriet received $2,220 for qualifying for Tashkent, but losing in R1 of the main draw, whereas she'd have got $3,705 just for turning up here, and obviously generally against higher standard players, had she won 2 matches to qualify again, she'd have made a cool $23,945.
Ah, I know why she's not in - it's because she is still competing in Tashkent doubles. I know Pliskova (the lesser) had been removed from quals, and also Duan (Wuhan doubles), but completely forgot Harriet was still in doubles in Uzbekistan.

Just came back to say the same, is it too much to hope that she gets an SE, probably a bit too high level for that but a shame, its hard enough to make a living without being punished for getting into the latter end of the week albeit it in doubles.
I was seperately aware that Harriet was still in the Tashkent doubles and not in Beijing singles qualifying. Finding awareness at the same time and thus enlightenment proved beyond me
