Sam and Anna-Lena are engaged in a massive battle here. Just short of 3 hrs so far and a 1hr 4m 3rd set already with the score just 4-4.
Sam opened the 3rd set by breaking, then there was a long MTO, which I suspect was Anna-Lena, who then responded by breaking Sam back immediately. Then another break each to get to 3-3, followed by two immensely long games both going to multiple deuces with both GPs and BPs. Both players eventually held (and have won 2/6 BPs this set so far).
There's another deuce game now... with another BP for Sam... and back to deuce. So close!!
Chuffed for Emma, she's certainly been economical with her events these past 12 months - 7 ITF events played (outside of Wimbledon qualifying) and she has reached 2 W25 SFs, 2 W25 QFs (one that may be improved further), won a W15 and reached a W15 final, the only minor 'blip' (or rather the lowest return) being a W25 2nd round loss in Glasgow against the much more experienced Savinykh, where Emma even managed to take the first set 6-1. She does have 28 points coming off soon, so unless she goes further here, will fall down the rankings a bit if she doesn't play much more in 2019 (not that that's too important at this stage), but extremely encouraging that she's competing with, and in most cases, beating, a lot of decent 130-300 type players.
It's nice to have a bit of youth as well as the experience in the quarter final
I'm a little confused in how Emma's points work now as I've just read.
' Womens $25,000 events from 26 August will no longer be awarding WTA points in R32 Main Draw singles. '
So if she's got 28 points coming off and these won't be counted, how does that work?

I think you've read the old not the new Helen. This is how it reads now.
