Week 39 - ITF (W60) Caldas da Rainha, Portugal

I hope Em is ok. This would have been a good event to pick up another decent doubles counter.

Great chance for Eden and Beth to win a big title.

They have a bye into the quarter finals. Only bye in the draw :)

Good stuff. Only 1 point if they were ( hope not! ) to lose in the QF. But the 15 points for competing and winning a L16 tie wouldn't currently be a counter for either anyway. And they have their singles to keep them occupied.

Potential QF opponents have CR of 1400 (1061+369) or UNR (1355+UNR) (playing Tuesday) so here's hoping for at least the SF this week (Kostic/Pgossi CR467).

Interesting match up for Eden - they've played twice in the past 10 months and the 2 outcomes were very different. She lost 0 and 0 in the UK last November, but managed to avenge that in Portugal in April by winning 5 and 2. Not sure if this forthcoming meeting is the same surface as that without checking, but the fact they are in the same country might be a psychological boost for her.

Looking more like that UK meeting at the moment unfortunately, Eden 1-6 0-2*

Yep. Been watching it on livestream. And it's Eden back to the 'bit of this, bit of that' style play, with no plan, and no lucidity about drop shots and net approaches, and what needs to be done when you've got 40-30 on the other player's serve.....
Which is a shame as the level is quite playable.
Not over yet????

Perfectly fair score.

Beth will do very well to get any change there given the obvious difference in ranking, and that Tomova beat Cornet and pushed Osaka reasonably close last week, but a nice 13 points for her already for minimal work.

Beth actually led in both sets, but lost the last 4 games in both sets.

Without seeing any stats or anything, that does seem a very good effort.
