L16: (3) Gaël Monfils (FRA) WR 12 (CH = 6 in November 2016) vs Cameron Norrie WR 68
Good win for cam , surprised how comfortable the score was.
The match stats are very positive - Cam managed to take 3/6 BP chances so it could be been even more one-sided had he taken the other BP's!
Anyone else often find themselves thinking it would be nice for stats to show how many different games they had the breakpoints in? I feel theres a huge difference between (a) taking 1 of 8 bps in 1 service game then having none the rest of the match (I you didnt get much look in on serve most of the match but managed to break in the one game where you had a chance) and (b) taking 1 of 8 bps you had in 8 different service games (ie you missed chances to break in most service games and if youd have taken your chances the match would have been completely differen).
Yes, I have certainly always thought that break point opportunities can be misinterpreted or lead to false assumptions. Your different 1/8 scenarios illustrate things well. Without further info, Cam's 3/6 could have been him breaking in all 3 games that he had BPs in.
In ITF matches I sometimes go back and look at the 'momentum' to get an idea of how BPs were spread.
Best comment I have seen is from Mike Dickson saying Andy overpowered Sandgren physically in the 3rd set which is really positive from a fitness perspective.
Russell Fuller's analysis of the match from the Beeb site:
Murray had to work extremely hard for his first singles win on the ATP Tour since New Year's Day. The fourth game of the final set, for example, lasted 19 minutes and 18 seconds. But Murray was physically stronger than Sandgren in the decider, and his movement, serve and defence were eye-catchingly good throughout the match.
Given the high levels of humidity in Zhuhai, and the two hour 41 minute duration, Murray will be relieved to have a day to recover before the second round. Especially as De Minaur, the 20-year-old world number 31 from Australia, is an opponent who will make him work very hard, and run a very long way, for victory on Thursday.
Sounds hopeful, especially that statement at the end of the first paragraph...

If you actually watch the third set, it's clear that Sandgren was not 100% fit (due to that MTO mentioned in this thread above). During the epic 19 min game, after some points, Sandgren was hobbling.
It's still a fine win and one I'm very pleased to see (& watch on replay on prime - thank you prime for a last minute pick up!)
Sadly Cam went down in 3 sets, Monfils has been doing well this season and is WR12 so it is a good score for Cam and a good start to the Asian swing nonetheless.
