I am not surprised. Garin has improved his ranking this year and is on my personal list of players to watch out for - I saw him play Cilic at Queens. Kyle on the other hand has basically just kept the same ranking but those 250 title points (from Antwerp) will be coming off next month and I don't think there is currently much to replace them?

 Still, really disappointing for Kyle.

Right now , hes behind dan and cam for Davis cup I'd say

Reports from Twitter say Kyle looked sluggish and needs match fitness -hopefully doubles will help that.

Dan's match should be on shortly.

Dan got given a real runaround in that set

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

He won the set 6-3.

But certainly won't need to do any extra cardio work this evening, the way this is going.

Yes, these 250 title points to come off, plus in the 2 previous weeks 180 SF points from Beijing and 180 QF points from Shanghai and in the week after 45 points from Antwerp. Total in October 655 points, very close to half his current 1325 points. He currently has 30 points ( 20 + 10 ) in non counters to replace these.

Unless Kyle rather quickly finds much more Dan will simply inherit the GB #1 spot next month. But let's hope Dan also adds his own points and looking good so far.

That is quite a significant amount of points coming off - more than I realised. I don't see him doing it to be quite honest. I hope I'm wrong though but I think he will be lucky to win a round or two in his remaining Asian swing tournaments.

Disappointing news to wake up to but I am not too surprised. I have almost written this season off for Kyle. I just hope that if there is an underlying issue, that he is able to resolve it , or (be that fitness, health or just confidence) and that he comes back all guns blazing next year.

Yes FW, and I edited in 45 points more in October, making in total very close to half his current total points.

Now it's looking a little tougher.

That was terribly close. But the Chinese guy played very smart. And it's been terribly physical. It'll be a test of fitness now.

is it correct that Dan will become #1 after Beijing/Tokyo week as it stands unless Kyle adds?

Based on your points assessment above, Cam will also take over #2 spot over that period, all things being equal and Kyle will drop into the 70's or lower ranking level.

Dan facing a tougher than expected struggle currently,

This Bai Yan was one of the main beneficiaries from the 25k points situation. He won 5 Chinese (and Taiwan) 25s and reached a final of a 6th since May, where the highest player he has to beat in those 6 event was 411, and his ranking went from 371 to 222 pretty much overnight.

Well, it might well have helped his ranking.

More importantly, it might have helped his tennis. Because he's certainly playing extremely well. (As is Dan, it's terribly close....)

I've not been able to watch. He did win the vast majority of those matches routinely in straight sets. He was probably just comfortable in his surroundings, happy with what he was doing, and then got an unexpected bonus.
