I do like Alison, and the fact that she loves playing on grass, Wimbledon, and the UK (mentioned she could see her and new hubby living in London at some point), but at the same time, really pleased Aryna was able to defend her title here. She started the year with a title (also in China, and also against Riske in the final), but has had a poor year by her 2018 standards, but there were signs of improvement recently, and this will maintain her ranking. There'll be too much needed to do to gatecrash the WTA Finals party, but hopefully this will put her in good stead for a big push in 2020 (and there is still a fair bit of tennis to play in the coming weeks).

Great week for Riske as well, and she, like Sabalenka, looks a good bet to make the Zhuhai consolation trophy.
