Maybe she was a bit fresher than in New York seeing as back then she'd had 3 qualifying matches to battle through?
Possibly more mentally than physically. There is almost more riding on getting through qualification than the main draw so it must be really tough on a player mentally and I think Harriet gets a little over whelmed in the big matches but that can be worked on. Harriet is never going to be a No1 player but she will certainly wring every last drop out of what talent she has and thats pretty much all anyone can do. On a side note she isn't far off being our female No.2.
Harriet's dedication is second to none (her account of going to be at 9 p.m., or so, most nights, practically zero alcohol, etc, etc, are very impressive).
But she's also made some very important, and quite gutsy, training and coaching decisions. And it's that, in my view, that has enabled her to jump up a big level from where many people might have 'expected' her to be.
I assume her main aim for the next 12-18 months is to get into the top 100 and be a direct entrant for all the Grand Slams, which assures financial viability. As well as to stay healthy, of course....

Agree, the youngers could learn a lot from her, I'm a massive fan and hope to see her in the main draws of the slams by right, taking the pressure of qualification off will hopefully see some results in the MD on a par with Wimbledon.

Those 18 points should replace a one-pointer from Monterrey. The players around her in the rankings all seem to have points to add or deduct, so we'll have to wait intil tomorrow week to see what difference this will make to her ranking.

Yes, I think Harriet has found some of her biggest matches overwhelming.
But I like her scheduling. She'll sometimes take a couple of weeks or so off but is then usually back into WTA tour. Since the Eastbourne Premier in June last year she has only competed in 6 ITFs. So she is putting herself up against fairly consistently good opposition in bigger tournaments which should help her in the future.
And she has still gathered enough ranking points from qualifiers and early MD rounds, plus these occasional ITFs, to hold her ranking up. Indeed a MD R1 win here and she will probably not be too far off her CH 121.
So with such as attitude, lifestyle and scheduling she seems to be giving herself the real chance to make the best of herself.
